Ray and Tammy's wedding day arrives, but their ceremony is interrupted when Mitch is kidnapped outside the church. While captive, Mitch hears his captors speaking in Russian and comes to the conclusion that the elaborate frame on Patrick Walker must be a part of the war against the Morolto family. Despite the danger his family is under, Joey insists Mitch honor their deal on the understanding that his family will protect them.

Tammy returns to town with the surprise announcement that she and Ray are getting married this coming weekend. Meanwhile, jury selection begins for for the Patrick Walker case and Joey struggles with acting as a witness to support Patrick's claim that he was framed. If Joey testifies, he might be exposed as a mob family leader and if he does not, Patrick faces a much stronger likelihood of being convicted.

Abby is back and agrees to join Mitch in getting Patrick Walker off so that they will finally be free of the Morolto family. Meanwhile, Patrick and Joey drop a bomb on Mitch: during his college years, Patrick was investigated for an incident very similar to the one he is accused of committing in the current case. Ray and Abby look into the backgrounds of the murder victim and Patrick's accuser from his college days.

Mitch takes the case of Joey Morolto's good friend and business adviser, Patrick Walker, who has been charged with murder. Joey is convinced his friend is innocent and tells Mitch that if he gets Patrick off, everything between their families will be square. Mitch takes the case in the hopes of finally putting everything behind him and his family. Meanwhile, Abby makes a deep realization about herself and helps her mother look into possible misappropriation of funds at the Community Center.

Determined to work things out by herself, Abby takes Claire to Kentucky to meet her parents, whom she has not seen since entering witness protection 10 years ago. She also wants Claire to meet her grandparents. Mitch helps a young woman who is arrested at the airport on suspicion of being a prostitute. While she is innocent, she confides in Mitch that she is guilty of something far more serious that also has implications for her family's safety. Meanwhile, Ray buys an engagement ring for Tammy and Mitch goes to Kinross and Clark with the intent of cleaning out his office.

With Abby and Claire in Danesboro, Mitch takes the case of long-time Kinross client Henry Kettle. Henry, who has become a recluse since writing his best-seller 15 years ago, is charged with the brutal murder of his little sister. Meanwhile, Abby gets to know Dr. Wilson better while she and Claire help her mom put on a dance at the town's community center.

Abby tells her story in Kevin Stack's probable cause hearing, stunning Mitch who had no idea what his wife had been put through. As the tension between Mitch and Abby grows, she decides to take Claire and visit her parents, who have never met their granddaughter. Meanwhile, Mitch seeks to get to the bottom of Stack's mission.

When Mitch realizes that Stack no longer has Abby, he hangs on to the hard drive and turns it into the authorities for decryption. Meanwhile Abby, who escaped her captor is found and hospitalized with symptoms of emotional trauma and shock from having been tortured. With Alex Clark and Kevin Stack arrested, Mitch is left to deal with the catastrophic impact of his choices on his family, especially a visibly changed Abby who is not ready to share what she experienced during her kidnapping.

With Abby having been kidnapped by Stack's men, Mitch's sole focus becomes securing her freedom at any cost, even if it means giving up the hard drive taken from Kinross & Clark. His efforts are derailed when he and Ray are taken into custody as material witnesses in an F.B.I. investigation.

A break is finally achieved in Sarah Holy case when Mitch, Ray, Tammy and Abby put all their information together and discover that Noble Insurance, under the direction of Kevin Stack, is systematically killing terminally ill patients in order to save insurance money and that Sarah, using her medical training, is the one who commits the murders. Mitch asks for a meeting with Sarah to confront her with what he knows.

Meanwhile, Mitch's first paying client, Gerald Sykes, is in jail charged in an ABM robbery and shooting. Despite DNA evidence, Gerald protests his innocence claiming he was not there. When Mitch tells him that he needs a viable defense, Gerald changes his initial story to claiming he was there but was the victim, not the robber.

Mitch takes the case of condemned murderer Jim Thorne, scheduled to be executed in three days, who wants to offer his heart to the teenage daughter of the man he murdered. The girl has but a short time to live and Thorne wants at least one good thing to come from his life.
Meanwhile, Tammy and Abby interview relatives of deceased Noble Insurance clients, individuals whose case numbers are on the Moxon list, and Tammy's unexpected news of an inheritance causes friction between her and Ray. Ray also meets with Sarah Holt's ex-husband, who tells him Sarah was an Army medic who saved hundreds of lives.

Mitch takes on the case of Elena Vosco, who is accused of kidnapping a three-month old baby, while Abby struggles with what to do about Kyle Hannon, a student she suspects is being abused by his father. Meanwhile, Tammy and Ray both make progress pursuing different aspects of the Sarah Holt case and Joey Morolto makes a statement to prove he is the undisputed mob boss.

Mitch and Ray are hired by Sergeant Leonard Debbs, a 20-year military man who enlists their help in finding his son, who he is convinced was murdered. Despite the lack of a body, the investigation proceeds into the arena of the Federal Government where Mitch and Ray are thwarted by a wall of secrecy in the name of national security. Meanwhile, Tammy goes job hunting with the hopes of garnering more information on the Sarah Holt case.

Thanks to Andrew Palmer, Mitch is cleared of murder charges in the Martin Moxon death while Abby and Tammy finally decipher the cryptic list of numbers Moxon slipped Mitch.

Mitch also takes on the case of Dr. Richard Kellner, who is seeking an injunction against a rival pharmaceutical company in the hopes of protecting his life's work - a promising Alzheimer's drug.

Mitch's new client is a learning impaired young man named Nate Murphy who, along with his brother Shawn, was part of a three-man robbery-homicide at a jewellery store. The third man committed the murder and the prosecution is offering a plea to only one of the Murphy brothers. When Nate wants to stick together, Mitch makes an agreement with Shawn's attorney to do so only to have Shawn take the deal anyway. Now Mitch must find a reason for the prosecutor to change his mind.

Also, Tammy persists with Martin Moxon in order to crack the code of the list of numbers he slipped Mitch in hopes of better understanding the Sarah Holt case.

Mitch defends Zoran Mirkos, who is accused of burning down a nightclub where he was seen in an altercation earlier in the evening. Meanwhile, further developments in the Sarah Holt case suggest that the she is keeping vital information from Mitch.
