Ruby Wax

In Comic Relief Does The Apprentice 2009 Ruby was responsible for creating the Female team's winning child game 'Stick Stuck.' She was the one who initially suggested they create a toy where children velco themselves to each other based on the role of a dice.

In 2005, Ruby starred in the West End in a production of Roald Dahl's The Witches. She played the Grand High Witch in a five-week run.

In February 2004, Irish broadcaster Patricia Danaher sued Ruby for maximum damages of £26,600 (38,000 euro). The incident had occured back in 2000 when Danaher interviewed Wax. Wax disapproved of some of the comments made by Danaher during the interview and demanded that it was never broadcast. Wax then went on to make slanderous allegations that were relayed to Ms Danaher's employers. The slander case was settled out of court and Wax gave a full apology. The amount paid to Danaher was not disclosed.

Ruby presents the British version of Cirque de Celebrité, a celebrity reality TV show broadcast on Sky One. The show features celebrities training for and then performing various circus acts.

In March 2006, Ruby was a guest on BBC Radio Four's Desert Island Discs. Her song selection was as follows: People Are Strange by The Doors, A Day In My Life by The Beatles, Quintet from West Side Story, Night on Bald Mountian by Moussorgsky, George Benjamin's A Mind of Winter, Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 in F Major and Bach's Concerto for 2 violins in D Minor. Her chosen book was Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain annd her luxury item was a huge bed.

She attended a finishing school in Switzerland however she did not enjoy it there and eventually absconded to London.

Ruby studied psychology for one year at the University of California.

She was born in the Chicago suburb of Evanston.

In 1997, Ruby produced and directed her own television series The Ruby Wax Show.

Ruby wrote the 1985 television comedy show Girls On Top.

Her first film performance was in a 1981 film called Shock Treatment when she played a character called Betty Hapschatt.

Ruby has written a stage play entitled Desparately Yours.

In her television show Wax Meets... Ruby spent time in the homes of numerous celebrities. Some of her guests included: actress LIza Minnelli, actor Jim Carrey, infamous royal The Dutchess of York, comedienne Rosanne Barr and ex-leader of The Philippines' wife, Imelda Marcos.

In February 2002, Ruby attended the wedding of actress Joan Collins and Percy Gibson.

In the 1981 horror film Omen 3: The Final Conflict, Ruby is seen briefly in an uncredited appearance as the US Ambassador's secretary.

Ruby's stage show Wax Acts was directed by her friend Alan Rickman (The Winter Guest, Love Actually, Harry Potter.)

During the early 1990s, Ruby toured the United Kingdom with her one woman stage show, Wax Acts.

She has three children: Marina, Madeline and Max.

Ruby provided the voice of the Pope in the highly controversial 2005 animated television series Popetown. The show was never aired as it was banned.

In 1987, Wax performed at the cult British comedy stage show The Secret Policeman's Ball.

Ruby was the script editor for the BBC hit show Absolutely Fabulous.

Ruby appeared in the 2003 BBC show Comic Relief Does Fame Academy. She made it through to the final but was eventually beaten by actor Will Mellor (Casualty)

In 1985, Ruby starred in the ITV comedy Girls On Top alongside fellow comediennes Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous), Dawn French (The Vicar of Dibley) and Tracey Ullman.

Ruby made a brief appearance in the 1981 Oscar winning film Chariots of Fire as Bunty.

Early in her career, Ruby was a member of the RSC ( Royal Shakespeare Company) and she appeared on stage with award winning actress Juliet Stephenson.
