Though Ryan is not gay, he say's that he feels comfortable playing gay roles, which include his appearances in Desperate Housewives and in the movie Eating Out.

Ryan: I had a very nice gentleman come up to me recently and say, "I liked what you did on Desperate Housewives, because we're not all drag queens or hustlers, we're just guys who like guys, so seeing you was nice."
