Sam Huntington was born in Peterborough, New Hampshire, on April 1 (no kidding), 1982. His father owns a cabinet making company and his mother is an actress, playwright, singer, sometime drama and dance teacher, and currently serves as Sam's manager. Sam is very close to his parents and describes them as "very cool" - quite a compliment coming from a teenager! Sam has one older sister, a college student in Boston, who gives him no end of grief but he likes her anyway.
The Huntingtons live in a small, historic village in New Hampshire a few miles from Peterborough. Sam enjoys almost all sports, especially snowboarding, wakeboarding, hockey, basketball and has a well used trampoline in his front yard. He also enjoys his car (a 1992 Volkswagon Corrado) which he is restoring. His favorite music is from the Dave Matthews Band, Big Head Todd and the Mighty, Mighty Bosstones. He also enjoyes live theatre, the movies and being with friends.
The 5'10" actor is a senior at a small public high school where he is an outstanding student. Sam says, "I know it's a shock, but I like school!" At school, Sam is well known for his friendliness and quick smile. Surprisingly, he is not seen as a star but as a regular guy who just happens to be a talented actor. This same friendliness was noted during the filming of Jungle 2 Jungle as Sam quickly made friends with the local native children and fellow cast members, and during the filming of Detroit Rock City as Sam became friends with several students at the school were they shot some of the scenes.
Sam began acting at the age of 9 under the direction of his actress mother as a part of her children's theatre company, The Black Box. Sam was also a part of Andy's Summer Playhouse in Wilton Center for three summers and performed at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge. His professional acting career began at the celebrated Peterborough Players where he was cast in four productions in 1991-1994, his favorite as "Jem" in To Kill a Mockingbird.
Although Sam wanted to begin screen work at 10, his mother advised him to gain more experience and wait until he turn 13. Following that advise, in 1995 Sam Huntington signed up with the JM Bloom agency in New York City, the agent of the actor David Huddleston, who is a friend of the family. Sam and his mother then moved to an apartment in New York and Sam attended the seventh grade at The Professional Children's School (where he became friends with Kieran and Macauley Culkin). Sam was soon cast in commericals, a voice over, a video for Windows 95, in the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation of Harvest of Fire and in the Winona Ryder film, Boys (although his part in that was edited out). Within 10 months of signing with his agent, Sam got his huge break when he was cast for the key role of "Mimi-Siku" in Disney's Jungle 2 Jungle. Filming on that began in April of 1996 and lasted about three months. During this time, Sam was accompanied by his mother (and often his father and sister) and a tutor who kept him up on his 8th grade studies. The film was released in March of 1997. Later that year, Sam appeared on the award winning NBC crime drama Law & Order. In October-November of 1998, Sam filmed Detroit RockCity in Canada, where he played the staring role of "Jam." It was released in August, 1999.
Sam plans to attend college in California to study film and continue to persue his career. He has been very busy with meetings and auditions, and makes lots of trips to New York and Los Angeles. Sam is one of those rare well-grounded young actors who is not only a great talent but good person. With his talent and a bit of luck, he will go far!
