    • It was announced on December 14, 2008 that Avery will not return to the Dallas Stars following his suspension but his contract will still be honored.

    • On December 5, 2008 the NHL sentenced Avery to a fix game suspension and he also agreed to go to anger management therapy for making a comment that the league found to be unacceptable.

    • On December 2, 2008 Avery was suspended by the NHL for making a comment that was consider "detrimental to the league or the game of hockey."
