A break is finally achieved in Sarah Holy case when Mitch, Ray, Tammy and Abby put all their information together and discover that Noble Insurance, under the direction of Kevin Stack, is systematically killing terminally ill patients in order to save insurance money and that Sarah, using her medical training, is the one who commits the murders. Mitch asks for a meeting with Sarah to confront her with what he knows.
Meanwhile, Mitch's first paying client, Gerald Sykes, is in jail charged in an ABM robbery and shooting. Despite DNA evidence, Gerald protests his innocence claiming he was not there. When Mitch tells him that he needs a viable defense, Gerald changes his initial story to claiming he was there but was the victim, not the robber.
Mitch takes on the case of Elena Vosco, who is accused of kidnapping a three-month old baby, while Abby struggles with what to do about Kyle Hannon, a student she suspects is being abused by his father. He is pleading self-defense in the shooting.

Mitch takes on the case of psychiatrist Elle Larson, who is accused of murdering a patient that had been stalking her. Meanwhile, Ray digs deeper into the Sarah Holt case.
Mitch takes on a Kinross & Clark client whose girlfriend, Amy, is missing. In his father's presence he claims that his girlfriend took off with his car only to later tell Mitch he accidentally ran her over. While Mitch works on making right things without violating his ethics, another man walks into a police precinct and confesses not only to Amy's murder, but several others as well.
Meanwhile Claire sees the popular girl in school cheating and is left to choose between telling her mom, the teacher, and being popular with the kid.
Picking up 10 years from where the movie left off and based on John Grisham's bestselling novel of the same name, Mitch and Abby McDeere, along with their 10-year old daughter Claire, decide to leave witness protection and, along with Mitch's brother, private investigator Ray, and secretary Tammy, set up their own law firm.
In the opener, the family celebrates Claire's tenth birthday. On the professional front Mitch takes on the case of accused murderer Sarah Holt and, at the behest of Judge Trott, the case of 14-year old Donnell Heywood, who stabbed a ate to death. Also, Mitch is offered a temping partnership with a law firm who want him to head up a newly created Criminal Division.
