In 1998, Dempsey released a solo album under the name Scared of Horses.
Dempsey contributed Bass, Guitar, Drums and Keyboards to The Givegoods' 2003 album I Want To Kill A Rich Man.
In 2006, longtime partners and bandmates Paul Dempsey and Stephanie Ashworth were married in Vegas.

Early on the name El Presidentè was used, before been changed to Fish of the Day. The publican at their first gig suggested they change it. The new words were chosen from a shopping list (Kate being Paul Dempsey's Jack Russell terrier).
Their album Desert Lights debuted at #1 on the Australian ARIA Charts. It was certified gold by the end of the month.
