Stana Katic was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to Croatian Serb parents, who both emigrated from Yugoslavia. She later moved with her family to Aurora, Illinois and moved back and forth from Canada to the U.S. She graduated from West Aurora High School in 1996 and went onto study acting at Chicago's Goodman School of Drama. She has four brothers and one sister. In addition to English, she speaks Serbo-Croatian, French and Italian.

In 2008, Stana created her own production company, Sine Timore Productions, which in Latin means "without fear."

With the second season of ABC'sCastle being touted globally and cult comic-book movie "The Spirit" already under belt, Stana Katic is emerging as Hollywood's next film and television household name.

Canadian-born actress Stana Katic plays female lead Detective Kate Beckett in romantic dramedy Castle. Castle follows the lives of crime-thriller novelist Rick Castle (played by Nathan Fillion) and young, type-A NY Detective Beckett. The two are thrust together when a series of copy-cat murders mimic Castle's novels. Witty rapport, a clash of wills, and romance ensues, all resulting in Beckett breaking Castle's writer's block and becoming his unwilling new muse. Castle airs Mondays at 10pm on ABC.

Katic's character Beckett is the inspiration for the central character in "Heat Wave," a crime novel ghostwritten by Castle showrunners, with the ostensible author being Rick Castle himself. The cross-promotional book series is a central theme in the show and has risen to #6 on The New York Times bestseller list. For her portrayal of Kate Beckett, Stana Katic was nominated for a 2009 Satellite Award in the category of Best Actress in a Drama.

Stana appeared inThe Spirit opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Mendes and directed by Frank Miller. She portrays the quirky, sexy rookie cop Morgenstern. The movie grossed $39 million-plus worldwide to date.

Stana played Corinne Veneau in the Bond film "Quantum of Solace" with Daniel Craig. The film, nominated for a 2009 Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for "Best Action Movie," grossing $586 million worldwide.

Stana's other film credits includeFeast of Love, opposite Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear, andStiletto with Tom Berenger.

Stana has prominent roles in some of television's most critically acclaimed shows. She recently portrayed torch singer Simone Renoir inThe Librarian: the Curse of the Judas Chalice, garnering top cable ratings. Stana's own vocals were used for the sultry theme song.

Much like her character Kate Beckett, Stana is an avid reader. She also has a strong interest in environmental issues, archery and music.
