Born in New York, Stephen Lang spent his early career on the stage, with prominent roles in such productions as Hamlet, before making the transition to television and movies. He is a longtime member of the Actor's Studio.
He graduated from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, of 1973. His father, Eugene Lang, was in the of 1938. The Performing Arts Center at the college is named for Lang's parents, Eugene and Theresa.
He has narrated more than 75 audio books, including narratives of Gods and Generals and The Last Full Measure, earning him the Audiofile Earphone Award.
He earned the Helen Hayes award for his role in A Few Good Men. He has also earned nominations for the Joseph Jefferson Award, Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle.
Married to Kristina Lang, the couple have four children.
