Steven Seagal is an American actor, writer, producer, director and musician. He went to Japan at the age of 17, where he worked as an English teacher and acquired his martial art skills. He holds a black belt in aikido, Shito-ryu karate, judo and Kenjitsu (/Kendo). Seagal moved to Los Angeles in 1983, where he worked as a martial arts coordinator and bodyguard. Impressed with Seagal's martial arts abilities, Hollywood agent Michael Ovitz arranged a demonstration in front of Warner Brothers executives.

More instant hit. Following films like "Hard to kill" and "Under Siege" secured his action-hero status. Seagal has become a well-established action star since then. However, compared to his action hits from the 90s, his current films aren't as successful and target his loyal fan base for the most part.

    I am responding based on the last quote posted here from him in regards to being a sex symbol. I always had the impression that Steven was a man's man. Most of his audience are men. I haven't heard women call his name in the sexiness ring. Van Damme? hide show

    I have to put Steven in with Arnold Schwarzenegger. I love these guys' movies, but I don't get the broad range of emotion that excellent actors portray or show. I enjoyed him guesting on SNL. I respect his lifestyle, but it makes me shake my head a little when comparing the movies he makes to his philosophy on life. They counter each other. I am sure he is a better teacher than actor!
