Steven Seagal is an American actor, writer, producer, director and musician. He went to Japan at the age of 17, where he worked as an English teacher and acquired his martial art skills. He holds a black belt in aikido, Shito-ryu karate, judo and Kenjitsu (/Kendo). Seagal moved to Los Angeles in 1983, where he worked as a martial arts coordinator and bodyguard. Impressed with Seagal's martial arts abilities, Hollywood agent Michael Ovitz arranged a demonstration in front of Warner Brothers executives.
Seagal made his film debut in 1988, starring in "Above the Law", which was an instant hit. Following films like "Hard to kill" and "Under Siege" secured his action-hero status. Seagal has become a well-established action star since then. However, compared to his action hits from the 90s, his current films aren't as successful and target his loyal fan base for the most part.
