TV was where the husky-voiced, raven-haired Suzanne Pleshette did best. The failure of Hollywood movies to give her adequate roles was an ongoing scandal for decades - had she been a Frenchwoman, she would have been a great star. As it was, she had fine roles for Alfred Hitchcock in "The Birds" and opposite Steve McQueen in "Nevada Smith", and maybe one or two others, and the rest of her films had her being Dean Jones's loyal wife for Walt Disney or snuggling up to the likes of George Hamilton or Troy Donahue (to whom she was briefly married). It was infuriating. However, on the tube, she hadMore lots of good guest shots on most of the big shows of the 60s and 70s, she did plenty of TV movies, and she starred in a few series, too. She wanted, she said, just to keep busy. She was given too little that was worthy of her, but she was always worth watching.
