Spikes: A lot of people used to blame him. But hey, don't get mad at me, you get mad at what went on during the week.
Spikes: Once you have an offense down like that, in order to be a great defense you don't let up, don't take the foot off the pedal. We're definitely not feeling sorry for anybody. You should have prepared better.
Spikes: The way this past season ended, we felt there was a lot of unfinished business we needed to take care of and it started with this first game. We were very eager to just go out and show everybody that there was not going to be a drop-off and to prove to ourselves that in order to get to where we want to go this is the first step that needed to be taken.
Spikes: Last week I had a couple guys talk. I mean, I talk back every which way but what you say to me isn't enough for me to come over and lose a game check over. I'll lose it during the game maybe, but not the pregame.
Spikes: I like our chances better than anybody in the league knowing that you're coming out at home again playing with the 12th man in the stadium. Special teams, defensively, offensively, we feel like we have a lot of things to prove.
Spikes: We don't care about going 2-0, 3-0, or 4-0. Our first main objective is to go 1-0. That's the only thing we care about. That's the main focus.
Spikes: We felt like we had an opportunity at the end of last season to do something great but we didn't. Now it's over with and we've been focusing on this game ever since we first came in at the beginning of OTAs.
Spikes: Everybody is even and we feel good about what we have and now we need to take advantage of it.
Spikes: Like I told, J.P., the ingredients are all here, ... The defense is ready to roll. The rest of the team is welcome to hop aboard and enjoy the ride.
Spikes: We started 0-4; that's what killed us, ... We've talked about that, especially with the young guys. We want everybody to know that it's important for us to start fast.
Spikes: My goal is to win it all, ... I haven't even tasted the playoffs, and I'm very hungry.
Spikes: t's all about how bad you want to come back. The Achilles' is not tight anymore. I'm like a wild dog about getting back on the field. I'm hungrier than I've ever been.
Spikes: I'm so very happy to be here, ... My lifelong dream is to win, and I was accustomed to winning before I got to Cincinnati. From Bantam League, to middle school, high school and at Auburn, I was always on winning teams. I just want to win again.
Spikes: I always say we got 700 pounds of pork up front. They're going to hold guys down and allow us linebackers to make a lot of plays. Even in practice. I'm loving it, man.
Spikes: I know a lot of people expect a lot of great things out of me. But I expect a lot of great things out of myself. ... It's time to be a household name for the 50 percent of people who didn't know me before.
Spikes: I thought about staying for probably two or three seconds after they hired Marvin Lewis , ... But the biggest thing to me is that they're not just a coach away from winning. They're not like one or two players away. It's something that's going to take a process, and that process will take three or four years. And three or four years to me is my eighth and ninth years in the league. Who knows? I may not even be playing at that point. I didn't want to take that chance.
Spikes: It was like a dream coming true, like I was coming into the league all over again, ... It was almost like hearing the commissioner call your name again on that stage. That's the way I felt. Just to see it, man, I don't know. It was almost like, and I know I shouldn't say this because it sounds so harsh, but it was like I was a slave getting his slave papers.
Spikes: I'll be back next year, 2006, better than ever.
Spikes: It was bittersweet, to tell you the truth, ... I just felt bad. I don't know why. It's almost like I was embarrassed to a certain degree.
Spikes: It was like, `I want to take my chances. This is what I want to do,' ... And then it just happened. I felt like it was just a matter of time.
Spikes: We feel we are the focal point, the strong point of the Buffalo Bills, ... So, we take it upon ourselves. We have very high expectations. We want to dominate and get the job done, no matter how many minutes we have to spend on the field, no matter where the ball is when we go out there.
Spikes: I've reminded J.P. in casual conversations that he doesn't have to do it all, ... I told him, 'Hey, a lot of quarterbacks would love to have the situation you have, so don't put too much pressure on yourself. Rely on us and just go out there and do what you have to do.
Spikes: Just to be mentioned in the same sentence with those guys feels good, but I want to take it to another level. I respect those guys because they did it. I'm trying to get where they're at, where people talk about me bringing a championship here.
Spikes: We never had the chance for us to go together, ... We were planning on going, and that happened. We didn't have him for a long time at all.
Spikes: I think everybody has expressed what they expect out of him. I told him, 'Don't feel like you have to do more than you have to. Know that we've got your back no matter what happens, point blank.
Spikes: Point blank, we've got to get out to a good start. None of us want to go through what we did last year. It was painful.
Spikes: I think he made some good throws. For where we're at, he should be fine. We're not worried about anything. As long as we do what we can do defensively, we can keep him in the rocking chair and just let him continue to get better.
Spikes: I guess they felt they had to get their money's worth out of us. It was good work, a good change of pace. You get tired of beating up on each other, so this was great to come out here and get some work against Green Bay.
Spikes: We take it as a compliment. ... But do we stop? Nah. If anything, you're just adding more gas to the fire.
Spikes: I told the guys the other day, `You make the playoffs and I think I can be back for the championship game. But at the latest I'll be back for the Super Bowl,' ... That's the way I feel right now. That's just my mind process, how I feel I can heal.
Spikes: You have to be more disciplined in what you do. You have to make the plays when you're supposed to make them. When the play is presented to you, you have to make it. We have to have guys flying around the ball. It will definitely be a good game to watch this weekend.
Spikes: We missed him. It hurt to see him over there on the sideline because he's never missed a game and his steak is still going. He won't miss this week. To see him on the sideline because he couldn't go, that hurt.
Spikes: Their offensive line did a great job of just staying with it.
Spikes: Those were just basic. He wasn't shy. Ultimately, that's what makes us. We're an attack defense and we're not holding back ever.
Spikes: I promise you, ... When I come back, I'm going to be like a mad dog in a meat house.
Spikes: In order for you to get where you want to go, ... you have to remember where you came from.
Spikes: We want to become great ... We want to become one of those units that smothers offenses. We want to be so good people fear us.
