Tamia remade "Careless Whisper" by Wham. She made 2 recordings of the remake. One was for her self-titled debut album and the second recording was for the soundtrack for "A Night At The Roxbury". She also changed a lyric. George Michael sang "I feel so unsure as I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor." To be gender specific, Tamia changed it to "I feel so unsure as you take my hand and lead me to the dance floor".

She has a daughter named Myla Grace.

In 2005, Tamia was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

She has the ability to hit notes in the alto range in her chest voice.

She was introduced to basketball player, Grant Hill, by singer Anita Baker.

She remains one of many artists who have received grammy nominations before releasing an album.

She is married to basketball player Grant Hill.
