Tammy Faye Messner

Tammy recorded her final interview with Larry King Live on July 18. It aired the following night, and she died the next morning at 4:00 a.m. on July 20, 2007.

Tammy appeared on a television commercial for the board game Trivial Pursuit 90s Edition, in 2004.

Tammy was known for the extravagant amount of makeup that she wears, especially the mascara on her eyelashes.

Tammy counted porn star Ron Jeremy amongst her closest friends, saying that he is one of the kindest souls she has met.

Tammy listed appearing on VH1's reality show The Surreal Life as one of the best things she has decided to do. While there, she followed the group along on all of their activities, with the exception of a nudist colony and a reading with a psychic.

Tammy was honored by the city of Lancaster, South Carolina on April 21, 2005, by making that date 'Tammy Faye Day'.

Tammy made an appearance in an infommercial for controversial medicinal advance author Kevin Trudeau. She later regretted it, as she was mislead into believing his claims were legitimate.

Tammy went on Larry King Live on November 30, 2004 to announce that she was Cancer-free. Sadly, on July 20, 2005 she was a guest once more, to announce that the Cancer had returned to her lungs.

Tammy married contracter and church builder Roe Messner in 1993, he is battling Cancer as well, of the prostate. Roe opted to not go through the chemotherapy and radiation, but rather adopted his own faith to heal his Cancer.

Tammy believed that the most important part of beating cancer, was a positive attitude. She lived each day with a determination to get better, taking a walk, even if she was tired, went out to eat, even when she couldn't taste, and continued to shop, travel, and administer church service, even though the cancer had paralyzed her left vocal chord.

Tammy received chemotherapy treatments to kill the Cancer, but also started her own non-medicinal approach. She took vitamins A,B,C,D,& E, one aspirin a day, 4 barley green tabs (green grass), and all of the green fruits and vegetables that she could find. These were meant to boost her blood cell count, and immune system.

Tammy had colon cancer that took 8 years to spread to her left lung, and was inoperable, she had spots and a two inch tumor on her lung.

Tammy was the subject of the documentary film The Eyes Of Tammy Faye in 1999, followed by Tammy Faye: Death Defying, in 2004.

Tammy had authored the following best-selling books: I Gotta Be Me, Run Towards The Roar, and her autobiography Tammy: Telling It My Way.

Tammy had made guest appearances on the following shows: Larry King Live, Good Morning America, CBS' Where Are They Now?, John & Leeza, and she played Mimi's heavily made-up mother on The Drew Carey Show.

Tammy had spent over 30 years on television, she hosted her own talk show in 1996 called Tammy Faye's House Party. She was also the co-host with Jim J. Bullock of a syndicated talk show called The Jim J. & Tammy Faye Show.

Tammy had recorded over 30 gospel albums over the last 25 years.

Tammy helped build the three largest Christian television networks in the world: CBN (The Christian Broadcasting Network) with Pat Robertson for 9 years, TBN (The Trinity Broadcasting Network) with Paul Crouch, and the PTL with husband Jim.

Tammy and Jim moved to Charlotte, Virginia and co-founded The 700 Club, as well as a puppet ministry for children on Pat Robertson's CBN from 1964-1973.

Tammy and Jim Bakker married in 1961, and welcomed two children, Tammy Sue and Jamie Charles, before divorcing in 1992.

Tammy's first job was working after school in the Woolworth's department store, her favorite aunt Virginia was also employed there.

Tammy's mother and father are both Pentecostal preachers, her mother urged her to go into the ministry during her senior year of high school. They divorced, and her mother remarried a textile worker, who increased their economic status, but she wasn't shown much love from her new stepfather.

Tammy sang in the choir at Falls High School, but was not allowed to attend any of the school dances, football games, or movies. These social activities were strictly prohibited by the church, so Tammy was often made fun of by her peers.

Tammy attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, where she met future husband and PTL co-founder Jim Bakker.
