Her father chose the name Tanith after seeing it in a novel. Tanith was the Phoenician goddess of the sun, the moon, the stars and the heavens. Tanith was also the goddess of snakes.
Her father Charles works for an aluminum production company.
She fractured her skull in June 2001 while learning a new ice dancing lift. After a three-week layoff, she resumed her training but had to wear a helmet for protection at the time.
Her mother Michele is a skating coach and skating costume designer.
Though she has lived in the United States since 1998, when she was 13, she didn't become a U.S. citizen until December 31, 2005, only weeks before the start of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics Games. Without U.S. citizenship, she would have been ineligible to compete on the U.S. team.
Tanith made her Olympics debut at the 2006 Turin (Torino) Games, competing in Ice Dancing.
