Tate and actress Amy Ryan have worked together several times. They appeared together in the film Neal Cassady and an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The two also took to the stage for the play Rabbit Hole at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles in 2006.

Tate won the celebrity division of the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in 2003, 2004 and 2005. The Malibu Triathlon, a charity event, includes a half-mile swim, 18-mile bike ride, and 4-mile run. Tate placed first in the run all three times he won.

Tate: Why do I run? It's the best form of exercise. It's totally the core of being in shape. I really feel so good--anytime after the first mile. You start fantasying. You start thinking about things. You start mulling over problems you have. It's a wonderful meditation of sorts.
