Ted Jordan is a nephew of the entertainer Ted Lewis (the"Is Everybody Happy?" man). He did a night-club act adapting his uncle's routines. He appeared in school plays and in radio in Columbus, Ohio before World War II. During the war he was a gunner's mate and a Seabee. Afterwards he began appearing in television in 1952 and in movies in 1945. He was in the original Broadway cast of "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" with Henry Fonda. He drove a cab and managed the hungry in San Francisco between acting jobs. He first met James Arness when they appeared together in the film "Sierra" (1950). He began playing character roles on Gunsmoke before joining the cast at the beginning of the 1966 season as town gossip, Nathan Burke. He was married to former entertainer Lili St. Cyr from 1954 until 1960.
