Terrell earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his Master's Degree from Rutgers University.
Terrell says that his mother helped to make him into the man he is today. He calls her an "amazingly strong, independent woman" and says she is his biggest hero.
Terrell's greatest fear is dying by suffocation.
In early 2007 Terrell starred in the groundbreaking series The DL Chronicles on the here! network. Critics called his performance "mesmerizing."
When Terrell was a child he was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Hodgkin's disease. He required surgery to remove the cancer.

Terrell has an older brother, Bryan, who his calls one of his heroes.
Terrell collects rare books and music.
Terrell ran in the 2003 Los Angeles Marathon. He finished with a time of 5 hours 20 minutes.
Terrell is 6'1" with brown hair and brown eyes.
Terrell is the director and curator of The Tilford Art Group, which he opened in 2003.

Terrell: (on his worst memory) When I was an undergraduate at Berkeley, I got really drunk once cold night and went to sleep on a steaming pothole in the middle of the street. A cop woke me up.
Terrell: (on his most embarrassing on-set experience) We were shooting the lab explosion [on Guiding Light], and David [his character] was supposed to burst through the door. But every time I would reach for the door, I would run into it because it kept locking on me. So they had to re-shoot it from where I am just holding the door open and going in.
