Tim was a production assistant in the 80's on films such as “Re-Animator,” “Dudes” and “Platoon.” [edit]
During the first three Seasons of Angel, Tim wrote many episodes, but for some reasons, he only wrote one for Season 4, and none for Season 5. [edit]
As of 2006 Tim is working on a screenplay of Heinlein's The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress.[edit]
Tim has stated that he loves writing flashback episodes. [edit]
Tim's work is typically characterised by a sharp, black humour and an ability to portray characters who are sympathetic, understandable and completely "wrong". [edit]
Tim studied film at California State University, Long Beach, and had always been interested in film making. [edit]
As of 2006, Tim had another series picked up by FOX, currently called Drive. [edit]
Tim was born in New York, but grew up and currently lives in California. [edit]
Tim wrote some episodes for The X-Files in the beginning of his writing career, but he never had an established job as a writer there. [edit]
Joss Whedon, fellow writer and director on Angel and Firefly, often taunts Tim for his not being able to pronounce the name "Boba Fett", from the Star Wars movies. [edit]
Tim has stated that he felt really intimidated when writing Buffy-cross over episodes on Angel, as he never wrote for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, resulting in his not knowing the characters that well. [edit]
Tim: I don't know anything about law. I don't know anything about order. I can, however, make up s---. [edit]
Tim(About his working on Angel): When the opportunity came up to work with Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt I leapt at that, in a Crouching Tiger kind of way so it was kind of slow motion. I've been here since the first year and now we’re going into the third season of Angel. It’s the best place ever to work. [edit]
Tim(About co-writing the Angel episode "Sanctuary" with Joss Whedon: Oh god. Faith is a force of nature as is Eliza who plays Faith and so I was very excited about doing a Faith episode. [edit]
Tim(About colleague Joss Whedon): It’s amazing to me what the Buffy writers do, they write episodes of Buffy, and then of course Joss goes "I’ll write a musical, I’ll create a couple of shows, I’ll write some movies, I’ll do a thing..." It’s all Whedon. [edit]
Tim: The hardest scene I had to direct was the beginning of the second episode that I did, which was "Through the Looking Glass". It was simply all five of the principals in one room standing in different places and moving around the room. Having to cover that, and making sure I had all the lookbacks meant covering four pages of dialogue was harder than a hundred Chinese peasants rioting. [edit]
Joss Whedon: Tim Minear is smart. Learn from him and be smarter. [edit]
Tim Minear(On his Pilot for the new show ''Drive''): It’s the largest possible canvas to do anything I want. I can tell multiple stories about multiple characters. [edit]
Tim Minear: I would never do terrible things to the morally upright point of view characters. Wesley? Anyone? Is this on? [edit]
Tim(about directing TV episodes, as well as writing them): I find it unbelievably easier than writing. For no other reason than you have a hundred people helping you, and every time you move there’s a chair under your butt, so that’s certainly a good thing. So you have all these incredibly talented people to work with, it’s not the isolated kind of trauma that writing is. [edit]
