Tom dedicated his second Daytime Emmy Award to his father, Richard, who died in late 2007.
Tom was named the "Gold Star" of the week by CBS Soaps in Depth in their March 3, 2008 issue. He also received the honor in their March 21, 2006 issue and their March 6, 2007 issue.
Prior to landing the role of "Jonathan" on Guiding Light, Tom auditioned for a small part on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live, which he didn't get.
Tom's Guiding Light character, Jonathan, was the focus of a 2007 novel by author Julia London. Jonathan's Story was a best seller and also featured Pelphrey, in character, on the cover.

Tom spent a semester in London studying at the famous Globe Theater. He also appeared on the Globe stage in shortened versions of The Taming of the Shrew and Richard III.
Tom has a pet boa constrictor named Mitch, who has appeared on Guiding Light with Tom as his character's pet. Tom inherited the boa from his brother, who was unable to bring Mitch to college with him.
Tom compares his Guiding Light character, "Jonathan," to the character of "The Beast" in The Beauty and the Beast.
Tom has appeared at several Guiding Light Fan Club Luncheons, where he has met with fans of the show and signed autographs. He was also awarded the "Best Bad Boy" trophy (and a stuffed snake) from a group of the show's fans.
Tom, found his passion for acting when he appeared in several high school plays.
Tom loved painting pictures when he was younger.
Tom has a "Bacon Number" of 3.

Tom dated Gina Tognoni, his [then] Guiding Light co-star, from 2004 to 2005. They met on the set of the show.
His role on Guiding Light was Tom's television debut.

Tom's hobbies include; reading religious books and articles, riding his motorcycle, and playing Texas Hold 'Em Poker.
On December 11, 2005 Tom appeared in a staged reading of the play "The Sunken Living Room" by David Caudle, directed Ryan Rillette. Hee was joined by Kim Zimmer of Guiding Light, Halley Wegryn Gross, and John Mangaro.
Tom: (on wearing his hair long) When I had to wear my hair in a ponytail, I felt like Steven Seagal.
Tom: (on co-star Kim Zimmer) With a partner like that every think is a lot easier and it looks better. She elevates a scene. She's on top of it 100% of the time.
Tom: (on his brother, Bobby) He's just my favorite person in the world. He's my little brother, but I feel like he should be my big brother because I look up to him so much.
