Tom Tully was an American actor. He was born in Colorado on 21 August, 1908. He was a latecomer to acting, first working the navy, as a pilot, and as a journalist. He first appeared on film in Mission to Moscow in 1943, when he was 35. Later films included Northern Pursuit, Destination Tokyo, The Town Went Wild, The Unseen, The Light Fantastic, The Jazz Singer, and The Legend of Jesse James. Tully received an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Commander DeVriess in The Caine Mutiny. This recognition led to his long running role as Inspector Matt Greb in the popular television series The Lineup. Other television credits included The Untouchables, Burke's Law, The Virginian, Shane, and The Rookies. During a USO visit to Vietnam in 1973 Tully contracted an illness, which led to a serious blood clot and his leg being amputated. Tully married twice, but had no children. He died of cancer in California on 27 April, 1982, aged 73.
