Dr. Stewart grew up in Mississippi.She graduated from Jackson State University with an Arts Degree in Speech and Theatre.She went on to study at The University of California at Santa Barbara where she received a Master's Degree in Theatre Arts.She was the first African American woman to receive
…moreDr. Stewart is a member of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority. A renowned sorority that's history dates to the 1920's and is unique in that it was the first to host a chapter in Africa, in 1948.
In 2004 the Mississippi State Legislature adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 601, commending the career and public service of Tonea Stewart.
Among her many stage credits are the touring productions of A Raisin in the Sun and A Member of the Wedding.
She has four children, including an adopted goddaughter.
