Torin Thatcher was an English actor who was best known for portraying larger-than-life villains. He was born on January 15, 1905 in Bombia, India. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before making his first appearance on the London state in 1927. Thatcher made the jump to film with his role as Solanio in The Merchant of Venice (1927). He would work consistently in the British film industry during the 30s and 40s, landing acclaimed roles in Major Barbara (1941) and Great Expectations (1946). As his career continued, Thatcher began to take on more villainous parts, appearing in Helen of Troy (1956), The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) and Jack the Giant Killer (1962) as the main bad guy. He would work in television in the 60s, making appearances on Lost in Space and Star Trek. He made his final appearance as Lassiter in the TV movie, Brenda Starr in 1976. Thatcher passed away on March 4, 1981 from cancer.
