  • Quotes

    • Ty: (About "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition") Our show proves that some pretty incredible things can happen when people come together.

    • Ty: (When asked what makes him "tick") It's about the joy of doing things for others.

    • Ty: (in an interview with the E! network) I would strip down naked, and swing from the blinds in my classroom as a child.

    • Ty: (Speaking on the terrible devastation of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.) If you lose the sounds coming out of New Orleans, you lose part of the American language. I realize we're just a TV show, but we feel we have a real obligation to let these people know we haven't forgotten about them, that we'll do whatever we can to make things right.

    • Ty: (Speaking of the daunting task of rebuilding a home in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina) It was completely different. Usually we help out one family and build one house...It's tough to do one house in a neighborhood that doesn't have any houses.

    • Ty: (After going to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina) I was not prepared for what I saw down there. When you see it firsthand, it looks like Hiroshima.

    • Ty: (About "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition") The one thing about our show is some pretty incredible things can happen when people come together and help people in need.

  • Mr. Ty Pennington ... we are in a difficult situation and could use some advice ... please!

    10
Might someone PLEASE have a helpful suggestion for us we're nearing the end of the rope and we really need a helping (hand) bit of advice? Please!

    Hello:

I signed my wife, Sandy, up for this profile ... but it was I (David) who wrote this story ... Sandy would NOT have been able to ... without breaking down into tears.

This is David and Sandy Elford:

The show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was a FANTASTIC effort on the part of ABC, The Dream Team and everyone involved!

They did the Lord's work, in helping others, and also did it in seven days!

It was a series with special MAGIC (a Disney type magic) a show with love that ALWAYS caused us to tear up when we watched the joy, thankfulness and look of relief in the eyes and expressions of those families that Ty Pennington and the Design Team stepped in to help!

These Design Team folks, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM, to us became more than just actors on a TV Show they were welcomed into our household like FAMILY MEMBERS that we knew and loved and expected them to be over at our house, on a certain night, each week!

You think we cried when TY yells: "MOVE THAT BUS" there were REAL TEARS of disappointment on the airing of the final show it was like the loss of a family member. I hear ABC will consider running TV specials of the series ... but HOW DOES one even think of submitting their situation when it's a TV SPECIAL? It's a long shot ... I know ... might as well purchase a lottery ticket (I'm doing that too) but I've got to try something to get the advice we need to for my wife's health and our animals well being!

Maybe we were close to show EMHE iin another way.

We run an animal shelter, out of where we live and our own pocket, helping many lost & stray animals.

When we first started our shelter where we were living it was decided they were going to sell the building. We were given 20 days to vacate, on Christmas Eve.

Most all of what we earn at our regular jobs goes to operating the shelter so we really had no where to go and no easy way to get there.

Everything we owned went into storage units and my wife went into the hospital with a major breakdown.

Finally finding a small 800 square foot, run-down, cottage just needing a place to care for my wife and our rescue animals we moved in.

Sleeping on the floor, with many of the animals, on an air mattress was what we were use to as we have NO real furniture to speak of.

The animals have an enclosed ram-shackled deck to roam and are never caged sleeping indoors every night. No animals ever get turned away we help all we can and each animal gets complete medical tests, shots, spay and/or neutered OUR PROMISE!

If we can't find them a good and loving home they will ALWAYS have a good home with us NEVER to be taken to a shelter or left to be homeless again!

Then, after moving in here I was so concentrating on just getting a place for my wife rest and to care for our animals I just spaced out ... on thinking about the fact that we surely could NOT afford the monthly rent and rent on many storage units of our belongings. The house is small ... but because of the costs ... shortly after moving in I had to move EVERYTHING into this little building. It's floor to ceiling boxes in and you can't walk full shouldered in any room. Water leaks in through large bowling ball size holes in the roof and into the walls, electrical outlets and is molding the carpet and damaging our boxed belongings. This HAS TO BE HOME as we have no other place to go ... then awhile back we received a letter stating that they plan to demolish this building and we will be asked to move. My wife had her second breakdown. Sandy loves Ty Pennington. During her second breakdown I got here a book by Mr. Pennington. She loved it and then asked if there was anyway I might see if Ty might autograph it to her. I said I'd try. I sent the book off to his publisher with proper return postage, an envelope and a letter. The book was NEVER returned! I told Sandy that it was probably delayed in the mail (she's still waiting) but that's been well over a year and a half ago. Sandy was very disappointed. Maybe it will still show up? We are also caring for my parents as my mother has CIDP (it's like MS) and my dad had CHF (heart failure)and they will in time need more home care and the economy is giving us more lost & stray animals to care for! I try to remain strong, for my wife, in working out our situation. She relies on me and I rely on remembering past jokes, comedy routines and songs to help me get through the real TOUGH TIMES these days. I must be thankful for what I have so I've written letters of thanks to Mr. Tim Conway, Mel Brooks, Doris Day (at DDAF, the families of Mr. Bob Hope and Phyllis Diller and Mickey Mouse at Disneyland (c/o City Hall). and the families of Mr. Bob Hope and Phyllis Diller. Mr. Conway responded ... maybe others will. In trying to help my wife keep happy every couple weeks I show her little drawings I've created of plans I have (in mind) for her having a REAL HOME someday ... she cries (happy tears) when we talk about these. A country kitchen, a music room (she plays piano which would be great therapy for her if we had the room) a craft and sewing room in a Victorian Eeyore theme. Eeyore is her favorite Disney character. There must be a way (a path) that I take in seeing that the money I will have to borrow can go into creating a HOME that will meet our needs exactly ( for Sandy, our animals and parents) and help me use my ideas for Sandy. I've contacted General Steel Corp with some ideas ... but they haven't responded. Please we need some help! I don't want Sandy to begin a THIRD BREAKDOWN ... and it will happen when the other shoe drops and we have to find a place to go. Someone MUST know of the right steps I have to take to get things rolling for us to make my drawings and Sandy's dreams closer to becoming real. If you have a prayer to share ... we could sure use it now!

    Thank you.

Mr. Ty Pennington ... along with your book we sent you a Christmas present of two pair of one-of-a-kind handmade mittens. Sandy and I felt down wool sweaters from various countries and she uses this felted wool and a special pattern to hand cut, craft and hand sew some beautiful specially designed mittens. We call them Kitten Helped Mittens as when she works on them ... she is often playfully helped by animals we are caring for ... as they play with the yarns and wrestle with the wools. Hence the name Kitten Helped Mittens. She made two special pairs of mittens for you, as a gift, which I sent along with the book... to be autographed. I told her that you surely got the mittens but probably just haven't had time to sign her book and return it.

Ty if you never received the package and have a better address to send a book to be autographed ... this means A LOT to her ... please send me that address and I'll secretly ship out another book ... and maybe find a way for her to make you another pair of mittens. She was so proud of her creation of mittens for you ... they were really nice looking! We make and sell these mittens at the Historical Society as they are hand crafted from pioneer patterns the old-fashion way of hand-crafting something nice that will last! A portion of the proceeds then are donated to the Humane Society and the rest we use, to help, in operation our shelter. We also, at Christmas, donated around 200 pairs to the Salvation Army to provide others in need. You would really like these mittens ... if you never received them ... she'd be honored to make you another set as this too was IMPORTANT to her!

    God Bless!
