Tyrone Power

Tyrone was offered the role of Marcellus in The Robe (1953) by Darryl F. Zanuck, hoping to get him to renew his contract with Twentieth Century Fox, but Tyrone opted to do the stage play "John Brown's Body" instead.

Tyrone enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1942 and became a Second Lieutenant in July 1943. Because of his prior flying experience logging 180 hours as a solo pilot, he went through a short training program and was promoted to First Lieutenant. After serving stateside in 1944, he went to the Pacific Theater in February 1945 and served in both the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima, transporting wounded soldiers and cargo to his carrier group. He returned to United States in November 1945 and was released from active duty in January 1946. He was promoted to Captain in the reserves on May 8, 1951, but was not recalled for the Korean War.

Tyrone's will provided that his eyes be donated to the Estelle Doheny Eye Foundation, to be implanted in someone that needed a cornea transplant.

Tyrone was honored with having his hand and footprints placed in cement outside Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles on May 31, 1937.

Tyrone had an extramarital affair with Judy Garland, who had an abortion after becoming pregnant by him.

Tyrone had finished filming 75 percent of Solomon and Sheba (1959) and while filming a duelling scene he collapsed from a heart attack and died enroute to the hospital. The film was re-shot with Yul Brynner; however, in some of the long shots in the duelling scene, you can see Tyrone rather than Yul fighting with his co-star, George Sanders.

Tyrone's most famous role was that of Zorro, in The Mark Of Zorro (1940).

Tyrone did a magazine advertisement for Chesterfield Cigarettes in 1950.
