Vic Damone began his career as an usher in Paramount Theatre in Brooklyn. At the age of 17 he auditioned spontaneously for Perry Como who advised him to continue his singing. After landing an Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout contest singing "Prisoner of Love" his rise was a steady progress into show business with hits such as "Again", "You're Breaking My Heart" and other gorgeous continental tunes. Stardom knocked on Vic's door with record company contracts, nightclub appearances, radio, and the silver screen with RICH, YOUNG & PRETTY with Jane Powell. He continued with MGM and starred
… More in other musicals such as HIT THE DECK, ATHENA, DEEP IN MY HEART in the 1950's as well as a melo-dramatic role in TO HELL & BACK in the 1960's. His most convincing role was that of the Caliph of Baghdad in one of the most classic American musicals, KISMET.
His most popular melody from the Broadway show, MY FAIR LADY - "The Street Where You Live"- gave Vic that thrust into television in 1955-1956 when he appeared in his own TV weekly variety show. His career took off still again after "An Affair to Remember", "Gigi". He has recorded over 2,000 songs and hundreds of unforgettable melodies by Berlin, Gershwin, Cahn, Hart, etc. Other TV shows he hosted were the LIVELY ONES and numerous guest appearances with some of the greats (Milton Berle, Judy Garland, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra calling him "the best pipes in the business") of show business, plus glamorous supper clubs, and sold-out concert tours throughout the world.
Vic was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in'97 and awarded the Hofstra President's Medal in '98. His "Farewell to Remember"concert in 2001 marked his last official tour.
