As I watched the memorial service for Steve Irwin, my heart went out to his lovely family.
But my heart broke for Wes. He has known Steve since he was 14 years old; the two had lived, breathed, laughed and cried together. You could not have found two people more close if they had been siblings. Steve would refer to Wes as his “BEST MATE”, but they were more like brothers Wes has stepped up again for the Irwin family and he has taken on more responsibilities for Australia Zoo, where he is/was the Zoo Director.
Wes has a young family (wife Jodie and son Riley). I can see another Steve/Wes friendship between these two boys Bob Jr/Riley. Wes has always had a love of animals and when asked which are his favourites? He has replied with a massive smile “SNAKES”, I grew up in the Far East and my back garden was a jungle. I had several snakes as pets, but I have a special place in my heart for the Croc’s of Australia Zoo.
Wes is a rare person and this world is a better place for knowing him. He is the type of person people aspire to be and hopefully he will be aloud to carry on his good work for the Zoo and the Irwin family.
