Biography:

Wilford Brimley is an American actor who has starred in TV, movies, and TV commercials. Brimley was born on September 27, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Raised on a ranch, his work as a ranch hand helped him prepare for his role in The Waltons, a 1970s TV series based on a rural family. He then began work in Hollywood films by serving as a stunt man and an extra in Westerns. Later he would star in major motion films like The Thing, Cocoon, and The China Syndrome, in addition to a number of Westerns. Brimley is known for playing gruff, older characters with a no-nonsense approach to life. Later in life he did a series of popular TV commercials for Quaker Oats and for Liberty Medical. Suffering from diabetes himself, he has done charity work for the American Diabetes Association, receiving an award from the organization in recognition of a lifetime of work.
