William Baldwin actively supported Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election. At one fundraising party, hosted by William and his wife, Chynna Phyllips, in their Santa Barbara home, $58,000 was raised for the candidate.
William Baldwin: (when asked if he's ever been tempted to run for public office): I studied political science and then worked on Capitol Hill before I was an actor. I've always been involved in nonprofit groups. I'm on the board of several different organizations. I used to run an organization called The Creative Coalition, which is a bunch of show business people that are involved politically. It's always been something that interested me. When I was a child, I always thought I was going to go to law school and then sort of work behind the scenes in government. But then, my brother [Alec, the eldest] got this soap opera, and I was like, "If that schmuck can do it, anybody can [laughter]."
William Baldwin: I could count my modeling jobs on my hands and toes. When I graduated from college, I moved to New York specifically to study acting, and I needed to pay the bills, and it's better to make a couple thousand dollars in one day than to wait tables six days a week.
