William's parents are Edward and Caroline Hutt.
William's first appearance on stage, was at the Stratford Festival, in 1953. Since then, he has appeared on stages in Canada, New York and London.
In October of 1997, William got an honorary Doctor of Letters, from McMaster University, in Hamilton, Ontario.
William was friends with playwright, Edward Albee.
