The daughter of a French engineer, Bardot went to ballet school and in 1950 was discovered by director Marc Allegret. His assistant, Roger Vadim, married her and sent her to acting school. Unveiled in glory in Vadim's And God Created Woman (1956), BB's dishevelled blonde mane and sex-kitten pout quickly became legend - though she had already been working for years as a model, cover girl and bit-part actress. In the late Fifties and early Sixties, her promiscuous heroines made BB Europe's biggest sex symbol and also showed she could act. Brigitte has been married four times, to Roger Vadim (French director), Jacques Charrier (French actor), Gunther Sachs (German millionaire) and Bernard d'Ormale (French politician). She has one son, Nicholas Charrier.Bardot has now retired to Saint Tropez in the South of France and devotes herself to animal causes.
