Monte-Carlo Television Festival also gives awards to CSI, Jaime Pressly.

The Cannes Film Festival isn't the only media extravaganza in southern Europe. Since 1961, Monaco has paid tribute to the best in international television at the annual Monte-Carlo Television Festival.

John Locke Lost in Monte Carlo yesterday.

The 47th edition of the show handed out its top prizes--the Golden Nymphs--yesterday, and the competition was dominated by the UK and the US.

Lost showed its global popularity by taking the award for best drama. The sci-fi show from producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof was up against a gang of competition (there were 21 other nominees in that category alone), including a pair from the US, 24 and Grey's Anatomy.

In the comedy division, Jaime Pressly won the best actress award for her role as Joy, the leggy trailer trash from NBC's My Name is Earl. As of press time, the show's Web site had not listed the winner for outstanding comedy show, which included nominees Curb Your Enthusiasm, Weeds, and My Name is Earl.

The International TV Audience Awards were swept by US programs, with Desperate Housewives, CSI, and The Bold and the Beautiful taking the comedy, drama, and soap categories, respectively.

Other notable awards went to Peter Davison, for his role in the UK comedy Fear, Stress, and Anger, Sonja Richter, for her role in the Danish drama Performances, Andrew Lincoln, for his role in the UK drama Afterlife, and the HBO-produced Longford, which grabbed awards for best script and direction in the Television Films category. Shockingly, the crack team of US news journalism was shut out from any awards in the news category.

Lost deserved winning.

Awesome. Lost definitely deserved winning this because of its world-wide popularity. Being just about the most popular show in the world is not a small feat in any sense of the word.

I also love the picture of Terry. Slightly ironic in that he is posed in such a nymph-like way.

I am not surprised that Lost would take the best drama award throughout the globe. I hope America realizes what a great show Lost is, because the world sure does.
