Peter has won countless awards throughout his lifetime. Some of the most notable awards include the following:

The Peabody Award in 1974 for a story on Anwar al-Sadat, which was the third president of Egypt.

The National Headliner Award in 1971 for coverage of the Bangladesh Civil War.

The Goldsmith Career Award awarded by Harvard University for his career of excellent journalism.(edit)
Peter was one of the three anchors that each notoriously became part of the 'Big Three Era' between ABC, CBS, and NBC. Peter was the major anchor for ABC, Dan Rather for CBS, and Tom Brokaw for NBC. The 'Big Three Era' lasted from 1983 until 2004 when Tom Brokaw resigned.(edit)
In the 1970s, very few Americans knew much about the Middle East and the affairs happening there. To change this, Peter spent much of this time period reporting stories such as the Munich Olympic Massacre and the Yom Kippur War to increase public knowledge of the region.(edit)
In January 1990, Peter aired the first episode of his own television show, Peter Jennings Reporting. The last episode of his show aired in December 2005, four months after his death.(edit)
One of the most legendary events in Jenning's entire career came during the September 11th terrorist attacks. He was on the air for over seventeen straight hours informing people of the absolute latest developments as the country was in complete shock.(edit)

Peter Jennings will be rememberd as the best and most influencial anchor of the 20th Century. He was a class act. Jennings by far was superior to Cronkite and all others on the evening news. ...Continue »
