Carell, Baldwin top Emmy's comedy actor shortlist

Daisies' Pace joins Duchovny, Shalhoub, Sheen for Emmy nomination finalists; Britney "snubbed" from guest spot honors.

With the Emmy shortlists for Drama and Comedy Series, Lead Comedy Actress, and Lead Drama Actor and ctress categories already leaked out to the world, only one major list remained to be unearthed--the funnymen.

That hole was plugged late yesterday, as a partial shortlist of the potential nominees for Lead Comedy Actor was revealed by The Los Angeles Times, based on information from sources. The paper dug up seven of the 10 nominee nominees, and aside from a few new faces, it's the usual suspects.

Shalhoub dominates!

Shalhoub dominates!

The Office's Steve Carell, 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin, Monk's Tony Shalhoub, and Two and a Half Men's Charlie Sheen, all of whom were nominated in the category last year, have a chance for back-to-back nominations.

Joining those juggernauts is Lee Pace from freshman series Pushing Daisies, four-time Emmy nominee David Duchovny from Californication, and Larry David of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

As for the three "missing" candidates, the paper (with good reason) speculates that both stars of The Flight of the Conchords, Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons, My Name is Earl's Jason Lee, and How I Met Your Mother's Josh Radnor are among the possibilities.

Jaime Pressly won't be repeating as the Emmy winner for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy; the My Name is Earl starlet did not make the penultimate cut. Instead, the title will be up between Pushing Daisies' Kristin Chenoweth, Two and a Half Men's Conchata Ferrell, The Office's Jenna Fischer, 30 Rock's Jane Krakowski, Ugly Betty's Judith Light, Weeds' Elizabeth Perkins, Saturday Night Live's Amy Poehler, Samantha Who?'s Jean Smart, Two and a Half Men's Holland Taylor, and Ugly Betty's Vanessa Williams.

Rainn Wilson is looking for his first Emmy.

Over on the men's side, NBC is getting some good representation with The Office's Rainn Wilson and John Krasinski, and 30 Rock's Tracy Morgan and Jack McBrayer. HBO's Entourage also earned a pair of shortlisters, with Jeremy Piven and Kevin Dillon in the heat. Two and a Half Men's Jon Cryer, Weeds' Justin Kirk, How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris, and Back to You's Fred Willard round out the competition.

The shortlists for guest spots were also revealed late yesterday, and Internet superstar Chris Crocker got his wish: Emmy voters left Britney alone. The much-hyped campaign to get Britney Spears an Emmy nomination for her guest stint on How I Met Your Mother has come to an end, as the pop-star-turned-shaved-head-crazy-turned-actress did not make the Emmy shortlist for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

The men's side includes such notables as Peter O' Toole for The Tudors, Robin Williams for Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, and Oliver Platt for Nip/Tuck.

A full list of the actors who made the previously mentioned shortlists is below.

The final Emmy nominees are scheduled to be announced on July 17. The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards show will be held September 21 in Los Angeles and broadcast on ABC.

I'm hoping that either Larry David or Tony Shalhoub wins the Lead Actor (Comedy) Emmy this year. As for Supporting Actor (Comedy) I have to go with Fred Willard. For Supporting Actress (Comedy) I would like to see Judith Light get an Emmy... either her or Holland Taylor. Both of these ladies are comedic legends. For Guest Actress (Comedy) I would have to say Sarah Silvermen. I'm not a huge fan of hers, but she NAILED that role as Monk's obsessive fan!

For Guest Actor (Drama), I would say either Robin Williams, Stanley Tucci or Charles Durning.

In a perfect world:

1. Steve Carell
2. Liz Perkins
3. Neil Patrick Harris
4. Peter O'Toole
5. Carrie Fisher

I watch waaaay too much TV and so I love all these actors, and because of that, it's really hard to pick one over the other. They're all perfect in their respective roles. Who's kidding who, Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven were outstanding!! How the crap can David Duchovny be a "comedy" role??? Don't get me wrong, he was perfect in his role, but "comedy", I don't think so, more like "Outstanding performance in a dramedy" role. Same can probably be said for a lot of others.

My predictions

Lead Actor: Baldwin
Supporting Actress: Perkins, Weeds
Supporting Actor: Jack McBrayer
Guest Actor: Robin Williams. I'll be honest, I don't know a lot of the people in this category but Williams was insane in his SVU episode.
Guest Actress: Falco was amazing, but personally, I think the job that Kathryn Joosten did this season on Desperate Housewives cannot be overlooked. She is such a strong actress for her age and her small role.

Though I am a huge fan of both Duchovny and Sheen, the Emmy should, as always, go to the big man: Tony Shaloub, for his performance as the defective detective is yet to be surpassed.
