Poirot prepares to spend a quiet Christmas on his own with a box of chocolates, but he has to give up his plans when the British government asks for his urgent help. Prince Farouk, a young member of the Egyptian royal family visiting London, has lost a famous ruby, and this is deemed to be a matter of national security.
The Prince unwisely lent his jewel to a strange young lady who promptly vanished with it, and Poirot forms a complicated plan to catch the thieves, harnessing misdirected romantic urges.

This episode is based on Agatha Christie's short story The Theft of the Royal Ruby which was part of a collection called Double Sin and Other Stories (1961).
It is a revised version of The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding, a story first published in The Sketch magazine in December, 1923. (edit)

This is the episode where Poirot demonstrates the correct way to cut a mango...
1) Cut the skin all around the mango's circumference with the tip of a knife.
2) With a spoon, loosen the top half of the skin and pull it away.
3) Slice the inner fruit three times horizontally and vertically, so that
when you bend the fruit back, the fruit stands out as cubes which can easily be cut off the skin.
