In Popstars : The Rivals, three judges will whittle down several thousand singers, from open auditions around the UK to just ten boys and ten girls. A weekly vote will see one of the ten hopefuls thier marching orders, until just five remain of each sex. From these five a male and female group will be formed, who will battle for the Christmas Number One of 2002.

This show was created by ITV as a follow-up to the hugely successful 'Popstars'. The series' three judges were ex-Spice Girl and solo artist Geri Halliwell, Music producer Pete Waterman and Manager Louis Walsh. The show was hosted by Davina McCall. The series was ITV's highest rated Saturday night programme, and it gave Girls Aloud the Christmas #1 of 2002. Girls Aloud have released an album and three singles, but One True Voice have now split after just two singles.less «

    9.9 Superb

Popstars The Rivals is a show simular to Pop Idol. Where the two shows differ is that Popstars the Rivals set about making two pop groups then having them both relaese records at the same time to see which one would capture the number one spot. hide « show »

Popstars The Rivals set out to create two pop groups and have them both release records on the same day and see which one would capture the number one spot in the charts. One group was all male whilst the other was all female. The show was a great success in the ratings and was broadcast live on Saturday nights. Each week singers were eliminated following a public vote until the five members of each group were left. Girls Aloud won the race to the number one spot and have gone onto have greater success. The male group called One True Voice have been much less successful and after their second single flopped the group disbanded after 6 months.
