At the urging of her friends, Emily decides that Rory's making her debut at a society ball will be just the thing to get Richard back into the social swing. To Lorelai's amazement, Rory willingly agrees and Emily goes into high gear shopping in preparation. Christopher agrees to escort Rory and Lorelai becomes entranced by his new responsible side, but gets a shock when she learns about his new relationship.
Rory has her debutante ball hide show
The episode starts with Richard and Emily having a fight about Emily's social functions and how Richard has missed many of them. Then Rory goes to her grandmother's house to pick up a book. There she is drawn into Emily's DAR friends talking about a debutante ball. Rory agrees to go, which is something Lorelai is amazed by. But there is just one problem: the girl has to be "presented" by her father. Lorelai calls Christopher and, to her amazement, he says he will "definitely" be there. When Rory is told this she is excited and says there is a 50 percent chance her dad will be there. But Lorelai says it is more 60 to 40 percent. Christopher shows up in a Volvo station wagon, carrying a dictionary he had long ago promised Rory. Then Rory has to get Dean lined up to dance with her at the cotillion. Rory shows him Neal Young in a tux. Lane points out that he also has to wear tails and white gloves. Rory convinces him to do it. Richard also has a problem with his tuxedo, telling Emily he doesn't have time to pick it up. So Emily gets it for him. Richard doesn't really want to spend time going to the cotillion, becuase he feels he has to work harder to avoid getting "forced out" at work. Everything goes on as planned at the debutante ball, and Rory has a great time. Finally the evening ends at Luke's diner, where Jess copies Luke's style of dress. Luke doesn't think this is funny.
Rory agrees to come out at a debutantes' ball for Emily. A great one! hide show
This was very good, as usual. So Christopher comes to stay for the second time in the series, as I've said before I actually don't mind him, not as a couple with Lorelai but as a character, he's good. It was actually amusing to see Emily and Richard fight, the opening scene was very entertaining. Emily going back and forth to get things, Lorelai's amusement at them arguing was funny.
I was glad to see Emily and her friends, it was interesting, once again amusing to see how Emily was with them. Then poor Rory is roped into another thing, the debutantes' ball. Lorelai's surprise that Rory was definitely going to do it was done well. I like how they both know how unreliable Christopher is, less dramatic maybe.
Dean's horror about the suit or tail was funny, there wasn't enough Lane though, she needs more screen time. Sookie was missing as well, something I hope isn't often.
We then see how much Lorelai and Christopher connect when they dance for Rory and Dean, who can't do it themselves. Ms Patty is creepy but kind of funny too.
The ball itself was entertaining, Emily and Richard still fighting, Lorelai and Christopher bonding and Rory talking to a fellow debutante, who ended up getting drunk I think. It was interesting to here about Richards work, I liked that Emily still argued back. I thought it was amusing that Rory had to tell them she was coming out next.
After Lorelai basically tells Christopher that she likes the idea of them being together and they kiss. Not sure what to think, don't really mind. But then Christopher tells Lorelai that he is seeing someone, not a huge shocker. Lorelai is obviously disappointed. Then we find out that Rory knew about this, shows us she has a good relationship with her father.
Luke is still having problems with the rebellious Jess, when Jess was dressed exactly like Luke, funny. His comment about the metallica t-shirt bringing out his eyes was amusing as well. This was a great episode, look forward to more.
After talking with her friends about it, Emily asks Rory if she will present herself in the society ball. She also thinks it will help Richard get involved in her social life. To Lorelai's surprise, Rory accepts it! Lorelai asks Christopher to come to escort Rory for the ball. He comes and Lorelai finds out that he has a car and a job. She is amazed. Jess likes making fun of Luke. Dean hates wearing a tux. Lorelai also learns of Christopher's relationship with a woman named Sherry. Richard and Emily are fighting.
This episode was good! It was kind of boring. I give this episode an 8.0 out of 10!
Trouble in paradise, Emily and Richard are fighting, openly fighting.
After missing a few social events because of Richard's work, Emily's friends convince her to present Rory to the society.
There's going to be a society ball and she is going to be debut.
Lorelai can't believe Rory said yes.
And the best part is she must be lead down the stairs by her father so Lorelai calls Christopher and he shows up in a car! A Volvo Sedan, responsible on the outside and wild on the inside with his sound system. Dean will be Rory's escort at the ball.
We find out later the reason for Richard's mood.He was throw out from an account he brought to his company and in witch he has been working for 10 years, witch means he is getting old.
At the end we get to see Lorelai going to her mother house offering to talk.
Lets she what comes up next
Really nice to watch!!! hide show
This is e very good example of a good series, with a great story, and very well written episodes....
The Dialogues are so funny.... The scene in Miss Paty's studio, where she is teaching Dean and Rory to dance was so funny to wacth..... and the debutant ball was amazing.... the drunken girl, Richard and Emily arguing in the middle of the room, and Dean was a very good sport..... a gentleman....
But the final scene when Lorelai goes to her mother's home and tell her she can talk to her if she needs to, was the best one for me.... they hate each other, but they love each other more!!!!!
