In the final episode of Punky Brewster: Punky and the gang throw a wedding for Brandon and another golden retriever named Brenda, who is owned by Punky's friend Myron. As Punky and the gang prepare for the wedding and the wedding takes place, there are flashbacks, focusing on some of Brandon's scenes from past episodes.
During a Firefly girl troop meeting, Punky befriends a deaf girl named Maria Aragon, and Maria begins to think that because of her disability, she'll never be accepted by the other girls, so Punky helps Maria make friends in the troop.
Disappointed and angry when a handsome classmate named Brian breaks their date for no apparent reason, Punky spends time with sweet, caring Tom instead. An innocent romance blossoms just as Brian attempts to fix his relationship with Punky, and in an absurd twist of events, Punky unknowingly makes a movie date with both of them on the same afternoon. Meanwhile, now that Punky is asserting her independence and spending more time with friends and guys, Henry isn't happy about losing his little buddy.
When Punky brings home a D in math on her report card, Henry arranges for her to be tutored by a super-smart classmate. Punky is convinced that Walker Wembley will be a major geek, but when the handsome, smooth-talking boy shows up at the door, Punky is smitten. Upon being invited to his house for a party, Punky believes that romance is in the works, but things get messy when she realizes what Walker really wants from her.
Excited about the beginning of summer vacation, Punky and Cherie are hanging party decorations in the treehouse when a false step sends Punky out on a limb--literally. Cherie panics, and Punky suffers a broken arm and leg as a result, leading Cherie to believe that she is nothing more than a wimp. Cherie continues to mope around for several weeks thereafter, but she gets a chance to redeem herself when she and Punky are caught in another difficult situation.
When Punky is grounded for neglecting her studies, she gets angry and vows to be "the perfect parent" to her own kids someday. Later that night, Punky is in for a reality check when she has a dream that highlights the downside of being an overly indulgent mother.
Punky and the gang want to know why Brandon is acting so strange lately, then Brandon is accused of biting a new neighbor, Ms. Jenner, and as a result, Ms. Jenner wants Brandon to be put to sleep (euthanized), so Brandon is taken to an animal shelter for examination. While Brandon is at the shelter, Betty notices that Ms. Jenner's daughter Leslie has a black eye, and Henry and Betty confront Ms. Jenner, because Ms. Jenner has been beating Leslie. Ms. Jenner admits that she has two jobs so she can make enough money for her and Leslie to live on, and that the stress of having two jobs gets to her so much sometimes that she finds herself taking it out on Leslie, who is always the only one in Ms. Jenner's apartment with her. Brandon has been acting strange because he's been hearing the screaming that's been coming from Ms. Jenner's apartment, and Brandon bit Ms. Jenner to protect Leslie from Ms. Jenner. Betty offers Ms. Jenner -- who never wanted to hurt Leslie -- a place in a group called Parents Anonymous so Ms. Jenner can get the help she needs, and Ms. Jenner accepts the offer and decides that she does not want Brandon to be put to sleep. Brandon is released back to Punky and Henry.
Margaux's father Benjamin is the new owner of the apartment building, and he wants to raise Betty's rent by 60 percent. Afraid that she will not be able to afford this increase, Betty attempts to make an appeal, but it's going to require a lot of outside help if she and Cherie are to remain residents in their building.
The night before she and Henry are scheduled to go on a camping trip with Betty and Cherie, Punky starts experiencing stomach pains. After nearly collapsing in the middle of the night, she is rushed to the hospital, and although she is upset about their ruined vacation, Punky is even more horrified at the idea of getting her appendix removed. On the morning of surgery, she attempts to escape, which means that the ever-courageous Punky Brewster is going to need some reassuring for once.
Cherie's cousins Paula and Bobby arrive for a visit. Paula is the same age as Punky and Cherie, and the three girls get along great, but Punky brings up a sensitive issue when she realizes that Paula is illiterate. When she disagrees with Cherie's decision to read everything for Paula, it causes tension between the friends, and ultimately, in the blink of an eye, Paula's fear of reading places her in a terrifying situation.
Cherie is frustrated that Punky keeps trying to sneak a peek at her diary, and it leads to a fight between the girls. Upon recognizing her foolishness, Punky apologizes and promises to stop, but when she ultimately gets her hands on the diary, she is shocked at what she reads.
Cherie's aunt Larnese, who is Betty's sister, arrives for a visit on Cherie's 12th birthday, and asks Cherie if Cherie would like to live with Larnese in Paris, France. Cherie is excited at first, but Cherie decides that she does not want to leave Chicago and move so far away from her friends and family.
Punky and Cherie enter a radio scriptwriting contest sponsored by a local radio station that has just changed its format from rock music to radio stories, and Punky, Cherie, and Margaux hope to win the grand prize trip to Disneyland, unless their opponents Garth Goobler and Grant Goobler, the self centered sons of a radio star, stand in their way. Punky, Cherie, and Margaux outdo the Goobler brothers and win the contest.
One of Betty's favorite patients dies and leaves her a Texan car with big bull horns on its hood, but Betty doesn't know how to drive. Henry's attempts to teach Betty how to drive result in Betty crashing the car into a tree, and because of this, Henry and Betty decide to sue each other, and it's Punky and Cherie who help Henry and Betty put aside their differences and be friends again.
Punky and Cherie sell cosmetics door to door for Lady Contempo Cosmetics, until they discover that Lady Contempo Cosmetics is a scam run by a con artist named Sidney. Henry washes his hair with Lady Contempo shampoo and wakes up the next morning with no hair on his head. Punky and the gang have to deal with angry customers who have also felt the various side effects of Lady Contempo products, and when they go to Lady Contempo to confront Sidney, they see that Sidney has cleared out, and it turns out that the reason why Henry is bald headed is because he washed his hair with Contempo furniture stripper that Sidney had disguised as Lady Contempo shampoo, and the reason why the blue face mask won't come off of Betty's face is because the face mask is actually kitchen floor wax that was disguised as the face mask cream. While they are in Sidney's office, A detective named Denko shows up looking for Sidney, who has cleared out.
Punky wants to give Henry a pocket watch for Christmas. When rich businessman Horatio Lake is robbed of a briefcase just before Christmas, Punky solves the robbery and figures out that Mr. Lake's son Jerry Lake is the thief. Punky tells Mr. Lake what went on -- Jerry had a plan. Jerry figured he would take the briefcase and lay low with it for a few days, then when the police gave up, Jerry would say that he found the briefcase. That way, Jerry would be the hero, and maybe, just maybe, Mr. Lake would pay more attention to Jerry, who wanted attention from Mr. Lake after years of being ignored by Mr. Lake. Mr. Lake wonders how he could've let things get to a point where Jerry thought he had to do what he did. Mr. Lake realizes his mistake of ignoring Jerry all these years, and he vows to not let that mistake happen again. As a reward to Punky for solving the robbery and helping Jerry and Mr. Lake become closer than ever, Mr. Lake gives Punky a pocket watch, and Punky gives it to Henry as a Christmas gift.
While Henry is in Detroit buying supplies for the restaurant, Punky and Cherie decide to run the restaurant, and they panic when a customer named Ralph falls asleep because of narcolepsy. Punky and Cherie don't realize that Ralph is just asleep. They think Ralph is dead because of the secret ingredient Cherie uses when she makes hamburgers.
Brandon gets a shot at stardom when Churchill, the famous dog hired for a dog food commercial to be filmed at the restaurant, gets camera shy -- and so does Brandon, blowing a chance for $1000 and also messing up Punky's dream of Brandon becoming a star, and for this, Punky calls Brandon a bad dog. After Henry helps Punky realize that she was the one who wanted to be a star, Punky apologizes to Brandon.
Punky and Cherie have finally earned enough money to pay for a special ski trip, but their fortune comes at the exact same time that Margaux's family goes completely bankrupt. Things get worse when the girls learn that Margaux does not perceive them as loyal friends, and they must do their best to prove the opposite.
Punky, Cherie, and Margaux are ready for a great summer at Camp Kookalookee, but Punky--who has been eager to get her hands dirty with all kinds of traditional camp activities--is disappointed when Cherie, Margaux, and their boy-crazy roommate have other plans in mind. Meanwhile, even more chaos ensues when Betty has a hard time being away from her granddaughter.
Punky has a massive crush on 16-year-old Kevin Dowling, who is helping her install a stereo in the treehouse. Eager to please him, Punky changes her entire wardrobe, takes to her eyebrows with a tweezer, and even (unsuccessfully) attempts to bake him a cake. Meanwhile, Henry is horrified at the idea of a teenager going after his little girl, and Punky is completely unprepared to learn the truth about Kevin.
While donating household items to a local convent, Punky accidentally gives away an urn that contains the ashes of Henry's late Aunt Mabel. What follows is complete and utter chaos as Punky and Cherie must find a way to reclaim the urn.
