This is the 2nd instance of Sam leaping into a Black man. It is also one of the several instances where Al is able to help Sam due to his personal experience; Al ran away from the orphanage in his youth, in this case learning how to play pool. (edit)

There's nothing groundbreaking in this episode, but it's well written and has some great elements.
