While on a routine mission, the ship is accidentally pulled into a black hole, which splits the crew into "good" and "evil" counterparts, with the exception of Ficus, who remains the same because "there are no good or evil plants, there are just plants". After Quark confronts his evil self on a nearby asteroid, he defeats him and sends the evil crew back through the black hole. As the evil crew is being sent back we hear evil Adam Quark say "Keep your deflectors up do-gooder! You haven't seen the last of this face!"

Gene/Jean: (as Gene) Yeah, at least until we get you back to Perma One for your court martial. (edit) Quark: Ficus, this is just a thought, but could it be possible that passing through that black hole in any way caused this to happen?
Ficus: I cannot be sure for certain, but in my personal opinion I am certain that I am not sure. (edit) Quark: Ficus, what does that mean? Can't you just say yes or no?
Ficus: Yes.
Quark: (yelling) Yes what?
Ficus: Yes, I can say yes or no. (edit) Palindrome: Do you know what's at stake here?
Quark: Yes! My life!
Palindrome: Something much more important. My job. (edit)
