In order to make some money, he sold newspapers on the street corners of Los Angeles, and became a full-time writer when he was 23. He has written numerous novels, short stories, poems, screenplays and essays, and been nominated for (and won) a host of awards.

In 1987, DelRay re-released Fahrenheit 451 and included an afterword by Ray Bradbury; in that he stated that the reason for the re-release was that he was upset to learn that his short stories and novels, including Fahrenheit 451, were being censored.(edit)
