Midseason replacement drama is itself replaced after three weeks.
Today, CBS has fewer brains--the network has put 3 Lbs. on indefinite hiatus.
The medical drama, a midseason replacement show, starred Stanley Tucci as an edgy New York neurosurgeon. Lbs. drew an average 8 million weekly viewers, consistently placing third in its Tuesday 10 p.m. time slot.
The net will replace the show next week with The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. After that it will cycle in reruns until further notice.
CBS has been moving quickly this season when it comes to axing underperforming series. Ray Liotta's crime drama Smith was also given the boot after three low-rated showings. Smith is finishing its run on CBS's broadband site, Innertube.

You guys are so lucky! Some of you complain that this show was on at 10pm on a tuesday. Try and find it in the BBC schedules in the UK. It started around 10.30pm on a sunday then went later, was off for a few weeks then reintroduced around midnight! Can't get the logic of CBS cancelling it as I thought it was fab! Don't think it was a House rip off at all and besides there's plenty of room for decent medical dramas (just count how many cop shows there are and no-one complains!). Maybe I'm a bit sad but I watch a fair few medical shows (british and american) and have the sense to tell the difference between ER (clue's in the title), House (grumpy junkie doc with personality disorder), Grey's anatomy (bunch of far too pretty docs who don't seem to do much work) and 3lbs (trials and tribulations of big doc and his underlings). I just choose to appreciate them for what they are and not waste brain cells looking for comparisons between. Am I wrong to just want to be entertained? CBS should bring 3lbs back as don't think they gave enough of a chance for the characters to develop!
06/03/2007 18:57:13i loved teh show and i am pissed they cut it
03/16/2007 19:59:303 Lbs. was an awesome show! I am very disappointed to read that it is "on indefinite hiatus." What CBS isn't thinking about is that during the first few episodes of any new show the audience is still getting to know the characters. It takes a little longer to get into dramas than sitcoms, however, in the long run it is worth it. I think 3 Lbs. has the potential to give ER, House, and Grey's Anatomy a run for their money if CBS would just give it a chance. If CBS doesn't hurry up though, they are going to lose the actors (if they haven't already!) Please wake up CBS!
03/12/2007 06:59:27I really liked 3 lbs and anxiously awaited for Tuesdays. I think if you gave 3 lbs another few weeks you would have a hit bigger than Greys Anatomy. Keep in mind, October is still a busy month for alot of people. You should have started it in November. I hope you plan on putting it on as a series soon!
02/13/2007 15:12:05It looks like everyone agrees with me, 3 Lbs. is a grrrrrrrrreat show! Since everyone agrees with me, how about giving me the job to evaluate shows to keep??? I think it's been close to 20 years since CBS had a really winning lineup ... time for a change I'd say.
02/06/2007 17:13:36I teach high school psychology and was just getting all of my students into it. Originally I was going to assign it for extra credit, but once I brought the 1st episode into class they were all asking to see more. It's too bad CBS can't hook them up! Please please put it back on!!
01/29/2007 21:42:24Wow, it was GREAT while it lasted! Why should the viewers have to suffer because you aired the show before scheduled? Not to mention that you bring it out during the Holiday season when everyone is the busiest and you complain because it "only had 8 million viewers" Hmmm, I would consider that a fair amount of people and had you given it some time, say maybe aired additional episodes past the Holiday season that number would likely have grown. With all of the junk on TV these days you pull an educational, interesting show like 3 lbs. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Quality shows like this should be on instead of junk like, American Idol, and all of the other "Reality" TV that's out there. I'm so tired of all of that junk, and was glad to finally see something with some content that was not only interesting but very engaging. So much for looking forward to watching some good TV, guess it's back to Discovery and Discovery Science. It would be wonderful if you actually gave 3 lbs. and viewers another chance.
01/22/2007 18:15:22I really loved this show. I am very disappointed that it was pulled. It seems everytime they put on a great show this happens. Ever think of moving it to a different time slot?
01/18/2007 04:49:08My wife and I loved the show. It was a quality show with depth and emotion. Just as we started telling people about the show it gets cancelled? WTF!!! Isn't 8 million people enough to keep it going for at least one season.
01/14/2007 19:16:30I am sorry I just couldnt get into the show!!!!
01/10/2007 19:58:58This was an excellent show. It certainly was a change from the overdone reality shows. My son has a brain disorder so I was extremely interested in the=is show. The actors were wonderful. I sure hope the show comes back. Maybe they could try a different night and time. You have to give shows like this a chance!
01/09/2007 19:45:283 Lbs was a good show. It was just on the wrong night. I needs to be brought back.
01/07/2007 14:40:08Not for nothing but as a person with little time on my hands i rely on my on demand and this was the best show i have come across and had time to watch since 24.. and thats not on demand.. so to be able to watch this show when i wanted was a great advantage... Youve lost yet another viewer here
12/29/2006 15:56:47I'm not a fan of medical drama shows but I thought this one was brilliant. Stanley Tucci is excellent and what's not to like about Dr. Adrienne Holland. The suspending of this show is why I continue to watch the other networks when they have breakthrough shows. This is why CBS will always be 3rd place to me.
12/28/2006 10:16:13CBS you need to quit axing good shows. Just when you come out with something that is interesting, and that people enjoy watching you get rid of it. Why do you people at the head of the network do this?? Are you even thinking?? You get rid of good show and keep replacing them with all of this reality crap that nobody really cares for anymore. Sure it was fun in the beginning, but now it's just plain old. ER has been on NBC for years. Actors have come and gone from that show and it remains, and people still watch it every week. Maybe if you would give 3 Lbs. that kind of a chance it would do as well. People love medical dramas. They love to see other people save other peoples lives, even though it's a TV show they still enjoy it. CBS take a look at NBC and ABC (ER and Grey's Anatomy) respectively, and keep 3 Lbs around!!!
12/25/2006 22:43:14House is a good show, but I believe 3 lbs is a great show! Put it back on at a earlier time, please.
12/22/2006 11:41:18This was a great show! Even though it played so late (10 PM) I stayed up to watch it. Maybe if it was at a earlier time slot? Yes, I believe many would watch. It is a great intelligent program.
12/22/2006 11:30:13I honestly think that CBS needs to hire a new person to handle advertising. No one that I talked to about this show had ever even heard of it. Its no wonder it didn't pull an audience. Its kinda hard to watch a show when you don't know it exists! Look at the show My Boys. That show is horrible, but people tune in to see what all the fuss is about because of advertising. And how can you people that claim to have never even watched this show weigh in on this? Isn't it kinda pointless to critique a show you've never seen?
12/22/2006 10:09:27I had been wondering what happened to this show. I absolutely loved it. It was so interesting and realistic. I like House, but I liked this show a whole lot more. I thought it had a lot of potential. I will probably not watch CBS at all now, seeing as this was the only show I tuned into that channel for. I'm very disappointed!!
12/22/2006 10:01:54Unbelievable. Finally I found a show I really really enjoyed. It was intellectual and very visually stimulating. Remember the lady that had her left and right lobes disconnected and one was functioning on its own? How creepy was it when she shut the mirror and saw her self staring at her self!!! I absolutely loved this show and signed up specifically to post this message: CBS Execs are childish, stupid, impatient and money/ratings hungry fools. Give something a damn chance. The Unit is a very bad show and you haven't axed that yet! Not everything can be reality-based hedonistic sex and serial murderers crap. Absolutely disappointed and now I am back to my cd-player and the tv off.
12/21/2006 23:33:21I really liked the show too, and agree that 3 weeks wasn't a long enough run. During the Holiday season alot of people are to busy to get into a new show. I hope they see the light and bring it back.
12/20/2006 22:37:24I really liked this show. It seems like CBS has something in common with ABC. They don't want to give serial shows the chance to grow an audience. I liked Smith too. Between CBS and ABC, I'm just really glad I subscribe to cable and can rent movies. When will TV execs realize that reality and news magazine shows can only go so far before we rebel??????
12/19/2006 20:06:47I really enjoyed this show. I could completely relate to it considering I have just been through brain surgery myself.
12/18/2006 19:45:13I agree with a lot of people here. I watched this show as well as Smith and started getting into them. I have watched a lot of pilots this year and these two show were amoung maybe three that I would keep watching. I just don't understand why CBS is not giving these shows a descent chance to build an audience. I enjoy CSI and CSI:NY as well, but I am not going to watch re-runs and neither will my DVR. = )
12/14/2006 17:05:263 LBS. was not a ripoff of House any more than House was a ripoff of ER. There can be more than one medical show. There has never been less than one since TV began, and there are a lot of different ones that are original and valid. The thing that was fascinating about 3 LBS. is that it was specifically about THE BRAIN. For those of us who are actually INTERESTED in MEDICINE, that could have been endlessly fascinating, especially since the writers of the show clearly knew something about the field. STANLEY TUCCI is definitely ready for his own series. He's a strong actor and he's paid enough dues. INDIRA VARMA is the hottest woman who's been on a network TV show since VANESSA FURLITO quit CSI NY. What is WITH you people and the women? They don't all have to look like either Courtney Cox or Jennifer Aniston, you know!!!
12/13/2006 18:30:48BRING IT BACK!!! For those of us that enjoy intellectual and intriguing shows...this was it! Great show - major loss for CBS!
12/13/2006 18:25:18I really liked 3 lbs; and was very disappointed when it didn't come last night. It was the best show I have watched in a long time. I believe if it came on earlier it would have make it.
12/13/2006 13:38:36Very disappionted!! 3lbs didn't get a fair shake. who remembers that little show called "Friends" if memory serves me correct it started out slow with a small following, wonder who decided to give that show a chance? I bet if 3 Lbs came on before a little show called CSI you would have seen a huge amount of viewer tuning in! YES i know that Thursday is the Big Time, yet 3 episodes is in no way enough time to give a program, no matter what day it is on. Last night when 3 lbs wasn't on I changed the channel. I saw that episode of CM. Big Disappointment.maybe i should read a book instead.
12/13/2006 08:59:56Is CBS CRAZY!? Not only am I in LOVE with all of the actors on this show, but it is great! My friends and I all got into it after DVRing it, and now it is gone! SUCH A HUGE BUMMER! I think the time it was on was terrible, and the day couldn't be worse. CBS get a clue! Even Friday night would have been better, NO COMPETITION.. since Men in Trees moved! Such a BUMMER! A TOTAL LOSS! (I love Grey's, Men in Trees, CSI & oddly Hero's but don't watch much else.. Im sad :O( to see 3lbs go.. NO advertising was done, no one knew it was on! It didn't have a chance! BUMMER!
12/12/2006 22:37:20Very disappointed, but not surprised. Was probably too intellectually demanding for CBS.
12/12/2006 19:30:53I just wanted to say that I am also disappointed in CBS. I was liking 3 lbs and I also liked Smith. They never want to give a show a chance to build a following. They need to lighten up. I'm ready to not even bother watching new shows because they always get cancelled or put on "hiatus"!
12/08/2006 17:43:55I too am really disappointed in the departure of this series. I am a big fan of Stanley Tucci and admittedly he was the only reason I watched it in the first place. I was really starting to get into it though. I don't watch House so I have nothing to compare it against. The networks should give it a chance to grow before ditching a new series.
12/06/2006 13:40:34I am EXTREMELY disappointed in CBS for canceling this one. I am a huge House fan and when i saw the season premiere for 3 LBS I was hooked instantly. I couldn't wait to see how the story would develop and after 3 episodes they give it the boot? BIG mistake.
12/05/2006 22:00:11I really liked 3 lbs. I wish they had have given it more of a chance.
12/05/2006 21:13:53I too like House, but I've worked in health care for 18 years and I can tell you that Stanley Tucci's character is more like a real surgeon/doctor than House. I dvr'd the first two episodes and watched them back to back and then watched House. After seeing Tucci's character, the House character only came off more annoying and unrealistic. Nobody is that miserable. The Tucci character was not a House rip off, but rather emotionally detached from his patients, like many, many doctors really are. Not bitter, mean spirited, and overly tragic like House, but rather high minded, logical, and unemotional, like so many surgeons tend to be. I do hope CBS brings back 3 Lbs. I thought the stories were smart, interesting, and often touching.
12/05/2006 17:42:22CBS are you out of your minds...Finally you produce an exciting, intelligent, and provocative series, with huge growth potential, and you axe it !!!! And your reason is because it only had 8 million viewers in 3 weeks...How sad for you.. I guess us 8 million people will be watching another channel...Thanks for nothing !!!
12/05/2006 17:26:57easy way to lose 3 pounds lol lol
12/03/2006 06:23:23Hello fans of 3lbs. I am too sad and disapointed that it has been put on hiatus, but instead of just ranting which indeed is helpful I know in feeling better I want to try a petition and get ppl to sign it and than send it to CBS. Basically I want to put a high tech guilt trip on them so if any of you would like to help me drop me a line my email is beachbaybee143@yahoo.com. I would appreciate help as far as how to create the petition and in getting signatures. Thanks
12/02/2006 14:56:09This show is provacative, intelligent, and has a terrific cast, what's up with that? Why is every network becoming like FOX? What happen to making it grow on people? Thanks
12/01/2006 23:07:04Don't the nets watch these shows before picking them up for airing? Doesn't speak too highly of a net that thinks it can use a recycled idea (gruff main character in a medical setting) to capitalize on another show's success. I personally like Stanley Tucci and wish they had given him a better vehicle and supporting cast to work with. Shame, Shame, CBS; Give the audience credit for some modicum of intelligence next time.
12/01/2006 10:30:17Talk about cutting your loses early. It might have been a crappy show, but they should have let it run, I mean they paid "Mr. Goodfellas" the cash, so why wouldn't they let it run?
12/01/2006 05:54:43At least this time they are cancelling a show that deserves to be cancelled.
12/01/2006 05:18:13good. the House rip-off is gone.
12/01/2006 03:03:54You can get to much of Stanley Tucci, and I think that was the problem with "3 Lbs." He over powered the show and the other cast members, so when he wasn't on the screen, it was a big let down. I remember watching Tucci in the movie "Core", where he was surrounded with a number of other actors who kept him in check and the audience interested. I don't think this was a "House" ripoff because House does show his humanity, where Tucci character was ego and business.
11/30/2006 20:37:33This is fuuny two shows out. After 3 shows.
11/30/2006 20:33:36first off smith was a brainless show. but this show was great, oh well cbs isn't as bad as nbc at cancelling shows. apparently tuedays at 10pm (9pm wpg time) and saturdays is drama "deathspot" hour.
11/30/2006 20:28:20i'm not shocked that it's gone. the character Tucci played was so like House that it screamed of ripoff. Plus Tucci is probably not a cheap actor to have around so the budget was probably up at a level where 8 mil couldn't cover the budget.
11/30/2006 19:55:05I knew it wouldn't last. It was a rip off of House and not 1/3 as good. Kas
11/30/2006 19:54:14I agree with danacat!! it's not fair! i like the show, to me it's good! hopefully they won't take a long hiatus
11/30/2006 19:52:12
