The "Match Game" was a game show way before you youngsters were born in the early to mid 70's. Hosted by "Gene Rayburn" and it had 6 well known celebrities and 2 contestants. Gene would say a statement of some kind, a question or limerick, etc. and then ask one of the contestants to respond with a word or phrase that they believed would match as many of the celebrities as possible. Each match was a point and the one person with the most matches/points after 3 rounds would win and go onto the final Super Match to possibly win $1,000 to $10,000. Very cool game and was possibly the funniest Game show ever on TV because of some of the responses or connotations from the responses. They always had fun and it was a great game to play or watch. The show was so popular at one time that they had a daytime version and a nighttime version going at the same time with the nighttime version called “Match Game P.M.”. I’m sure you can find more information about the game show by doing a search for “Match Game” here at tv.com and even more by searching via Google? There is also a Great book that is published and updated every 4 or 5 years that I always buy titled “The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows 1946 – Present” written by “Tim Brooks” and “Earle Marsh” and I currently have their 8th Edition. I call my book the “Bible of Entertainment” it has so much really cool information in it. TV show/series names are sorted alphabetically, it gives you the date each show debuted, last date it aired, time, channel and night of the week it aired, if it moved to a different night or time when, all it’s stars and repeating guest stars and the years they were on the show. In the back of the book is a Prime Time TV Grid for every network, night of the week and year from 1946 on. It next has a list of the Top 30 shows for each year from 1950 on with the show name, network and ratings average for that year. Next comes a list of the longest running nighttime TV series of all-time followed by the Top 100 series of all-time.

The "Tonight Show" is the longest running continuous primetime show with 53 seasons, followed by "60 Minutes" with 39 seasons. The Top 10 shows of all-time are:

    1. 60 Minutes
    2. Gunsmoke
    3. The Red Skelton Show
    4. Bonanza
    5. All In The Family/Archie Bunker’s Place
    6. Walt Disney
    7. The Ed Sullivan Show/Toast of the Town
    8. The Lucy Show/I Love Lucy
    9. ER
    10. Murder She Wrote

The current 8th Edition goes through 2002 season so I’m sure the Top 10 would be way different now with the shows of: American Idol, CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, etc. Anyway there is just so much more very cool stuff in this book I may post a BLOG soon to go into great detail?

As far as the game show I would love to be on it's a tie between "Family Feud" which has always been one of my all-time favorite game shows and "Deal or no Deal" just because of the 26 sexy babes alone!

I'd be on 1 vs 100. All the questions are really easy it seems so I don't think I'd have a hard time.

    Ah...
The Match Game (where else could you play with 6 celebs on one program?)
    $25,000 Pyramid
    Password
    Card Sharks
    Supermarket Sweep
    Sale Of The Century
    Name That Tune

I'm way smarter than a 5th Grader, and I don't need to prove that to anyone (or myself), Deal Or No Deal takes 95% luck and 25% brain (if your luck doesn't run out by then)

I know double posting is a no-no, but I've gotta comment on the books...

The best guide for Game Shows is THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF GAME SHOWS (Schwartz/Ryan/Wostbrock)
It's much more complete and in depth.  Don't know the latest edition, but the 3rd gets you thru the basics and gets you a nice little history lesson (for those of you who didn't live it).

For TV info in general, I'm partial to TOTAL TV (McNeil).  It covers the daytime TV (soaps, talk, etc.), original syndicated programming, news, children's/cartoons, and weekend shows that the PRIME TIME books leave out.
