Episode Summary

Ren decides to take to the life of a hermit after he can take no more of Stimpy's stupidity.

  •
    5.1 Mediocre

Ren lives on like a hermit to be alone, but goes crazy after being alone for quit some time. hide show

Yep, this is one of the worst escuse for a 18-min episode.

Boring, and just great! Stimpy shouldn't get what he deserved: being alone because of not leaving Ren alone and I don't care what happens! Ren care about that because he except for Stimpy is WAY out of character! This episode barely made sense why Ren care about being alone, didn't like that episode. Of course, I think Ren shouldn't have been in the cave to long, or Ren shouldn't have cared about alone, or Ren shouldn;t have gone crazy about the raket, or Ren shouldn't have burned the chicken, or at least Stimpy shouldn't have been singing that song. It seems like Ren is dreaming...man, he can't help with anything at all except his life, but he does need a life (exceept for Stimpy's stupidity buging him)!

    FINAL GRADE: D-

This episode was utterly disturbing, but I thought it was great. I just love the episdoes where Ren goes insane. hide show

This episode reminded me of the old episdoes. Ith as everything you can ask for. Disturbing sequences, a mumified bug man, bats, Stimpy being as stupid as ever, Ren going insane, Bat doo-doo, and a house made out of a cow.

This episode was pretty good, it's one of my faveorites. Is it yours?

  • Some elements of this episode expand on themes originally explored in the season one episode 'Stimpy's Big Day/The Big Shot', which also featured Ren going crazy with loneliness in the absence of Stimpy. Also there are portions of the season three episode 'Hard Times For Haggis' that are revisited: for example, the sequence in which Haggis is driven to the edge and screams out 'No!' with his head in hands is this time inflicted on Ren. []
  • While most episodes of Ren and Stimpy relied heavily on the Capitol and Production Music Archives for the show's musical score, this episode featured original music by director Chris Reccardi during the psychosis scenes. Also the episode includes numerous interpretations of 'Kumbaya' a traditional hymn and renowned campfire dirge: Stimpy atonally sings it accompanied by a concertina; a jazzy, upbeat guitar rendition accompanies the scene where Stimpy is cooking the concertina and the final scene where Ren returns; a more melancholy version of the tune is played while Stimpy crafts the ear-wax Ren. The latter features a drab bassline titled 'Sven Blues' that previously appeared on its own in the episode 'Sven Hoek' and on the tie-in audio cassette 'You Eediot'. []
