In August 2008, Richard paid £2m for a reportedly 18th Century haunted castle in Herefordshire, set in 20 acres with stables and out-buildings. (edit) In 2008, Richard received £750,000 for his work on advertisements for supermarket chain, Morrisons. (edit) Richard's Opel Kadett, 'Oliver' from the Top Gear African special was shipped back to the UK, and specially restored before being returned to him. (edit) Richard Hammond and family recently moved from their rented farm house in Gloucestershire to a rented house in Buckinghamshire which is closer to London. Unfortunately, Richard felt that they didn't fit in there so moved his family back to Gloucestershire after just 3 days. This little experience has cost him a small fortune and has had to sell one of his prize collection of cars to pay for it. He said it was just like a very expensive holiday. (edit) Richard is a huge fan of the Porsche 911 but during very bad floods in July 2007 he actually had to abandon his car, he had been stuck in traffic for 13 hours, and run home so he could see his daughter on her birthday. Jeremy Clarkson: (the “Top Gear’ co-presenter talks about showing footage of Richard’s accident) Half the world wants to see the crash so I'm sure we'll show it. We're looking into whether we've enough footage of a good quality to show it. I imagine we'll be using it in the first show. Richard has no idea what happened to him so he'll be as keen as everyone else to see it. It was very frightening, very strange. You're warned about things like personality change – but how would I know. I can't drink for two years – only weak lager, and only one or two of those. I'm sending Mindy (his wife) to try and negotiate that down. You just do exactly what they say. I'd look at the menu and order my favourite, cottage pie. Five minutes later it arrived and I said that's great, it's my favourite, how did you know? (edit)
