Born in 1960, Roeper grew up raised by parents Robert, a computer systems analyst, and Margaret, a bookstore manager, as one of four children.
He graduated from Illinois State University in 1982, and, five years later, became a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times, a job he is still holding today. He also writes articles for the New York Times Syndicate. Roeper remains one of the most quick-witted and well-informed political commentators of our time, although his articles cover everything from politics to media and beyond.
In September 1999, Roger Ebert hand-picked Roeper from countless applicants to replace the late Gene Siskel to host North America's most famous movie review program. Like his career writing for the Sun-Times, Roeper runs in no danger of having to relinquish this position.
