Rick was seriously considered for the Broadway play Funny Girl, starring opposite Barbra Streisand, until he disclosed that he couldn't sing. (edit)
While assigned to the army base near Nashville, Rick met an ex-broadway actor named Raymond Johnson at the Community Playhouse. Rick learned the rudiments of acting from him and appeared in about 10 plays there. (edit)
While in the Air Corps, Rick studied radio communications at first, but did poorly on the math tests, and ended up being assigned to public relations at the base near Nashville. (edit)
