  • Rod was married five times, to actress Sally Gracie (1952-1958), actress Claire Bloom (1959-1969), Sherry Nelson (1973-1979), Paula Ellis (1986-1997) and actress Joan Benedict (2000-his death in 2002). (edit)
  • Rod turned down doing the film version of Marty (1955) saying he didn't want to repeat himself after doing the 1953 tv film. The producers claimed they didn't want him because they believed no one would pay to see him after having watched it before on tv.(edit)
