According to a popular urban legend, Reagan was the first choice to play the part of Rick Blaine in Casablanca. In fact, no one other than Humphrey Bogart was ever considered. The legend stems from a press release planted in The Hollywood Reporter intended to keep Reagan's name in the news, and to provide extra publicity for his earlier film, King's Row, which also starred Ann Sheridan, mentioned in the press release as playing Ilsa, the part played by Ingrid Bergman.

Reagan was shot by John W. Hinckley outside a hotel In Washington D.C. on March 30, 1981. Reagan survived, but the bullet injured him badly, just missing his heart.
